Kopes Baby Back in Winning Stride Easily Shows Way To Vasco Da Gama 1 Success of Bohemia Stables Recent Purchase Is Popular With 11,300 Delaware Fans ■ By PALMER HEAGERTY Staff Correspondent DELAWARE PARK, Stanton, Del., June 17.— Making his second appearance since being acquired for 9,500 by Mrs. Richard C. du Ponts Bohemia Stable, the three-year-old Blue Swords colt, Kopes Baby this afternoon scored an easy victory in the featured Governor J. Caleb Boggs Purse. Soundly beaten by almost five lengths came Mrs. D. L. Reynolds Vasco Da Gama, who was a neck before Mrs. V. Stewarts Rustic Billy. Miss Ann Uhlars Tiercel and Cornelius V. Whitneys Zig Away were the only other starters. Performing before a crowd of approximately 11,300, including Governor Boggs and his party, Kopes Baby had little difficulty with the opposition as he coasted to the end of the mile and a sixteenth in 1:47 flat over the good track. Ridden by Norman Cox, who took yesterdays feature with Repetoire, Kopes Baby was a slight favorite over Rustic Billy and returned .40. Rustic Billy was the pacemaker in the feature, but only after moving between horses and being the victim of considerable bumping in the process. He attained a clear advantage entering the backstretch as Zig Away, the main offender in the earlier crowding, already showing signs of wear. Draws Clear Rapidly Tiercel was closest to Rustic Billy leaving the backstretch but it had already become apparent that Kopes Baby was the one to beat. Cox sent him to the leaders from the outside midway of the final turn, then assumed the lead when straightened into the homelane. Once on the "Bill," the Bohemia racer rapidly drew clear as he asserted himself. Vasco Da Gama, who raced under a claiming tag of 1,000 in his most recent appearance, came along in time to wear down the weary Rustic Billy. The latter, winner of two consecutive races prior to this meeting, was apparently outclassed in the recent Kent Stakes but was expected to give a much better account of himself today. Mrs. John R. H. Thourons stable continued its successful ways when Effervescence scored in the co-featured Esposa Purse, whipping On Duty by three lengths with Kaypee a nose behind the place horse. The three-year-old son of Heliopolis paid .00 for his triumph in the six-furlong event. Ivachance and Milady Mowlee combined for a Daily Double payment of 6.80 after First Ballot was disqualified in the second event for drifting out.
