MURPHY LINCOLN FIELDS, Crete, 111., June 17.— This was Streator, 111., day at Lincoln Fields, and Mayor Albert Dietman, of the prosperous downstate community, headed a delegation of 250 citizens in their journey to the track. They were part of the crowd of 6,479 that witnessed Hoop Mood, from the Fred Hooper Stable, in a surprise success in the featured Streator Purse. The race was at six furlongs, and Hoop Mood, beaten over 20 lengths on a heavy track here in his last outing, paid 8.20. She was ridden by Don Scurlock and registered a two-length victory over Prairie State, with Black Main, the favorite, finishing third. The distance was six furlongs. A full field of 12 went to the post in the Streator, and it was more or less of a scramble, with several taking a shot at showing the way. Prairie State was first out of the gate, Debbie Sue led at the quarter, and Baby Tucky was in front at the half, with Hoop Mood taking over an eighth from home and dominating the situation thereafter. Loanelle Lasts for Head Tally The heat wave continued for the sixth straight day and the track was fast. Loanelle, a filly who was purchased for 00 at the Keeneland yearling sales last season by Earl Wilson, one of her present owners, paid her first major dividend in taking the daily two-year-old race that came third on the bill. Making her eighth start, Loanelle, ridden by Earl Knapp, got to the front early and lasted to win by a head from Molly Bell, with the favored Track General, running for a new owner today, being third. The distance was five furlongs and Loanelle paid 4.40. Loanelle is by On Location — Lady Rheanelle, by Chance Shot. She was bred by Mrs. G. C. Coleman. Oarlin Ann, a three-year-old filly who was -claimed by Clover Leaf Farm from , W. H. Bishop after having won twostraight purses for the latter, continued her winning ways by clicking in the opening race. The daughter of Blensign was raised ,000 in claiming price, but came through handsomely in leading most of the way. The distance was six furlongs nad Eldon Nelson was the winning rider. Apprentice Tommy ONeil was in the saddle and. he kept his charge going long enough to withstand a closing challenge by Black Canasta. The favored Flight Captain was fourth. Hottentot was making his second start here. He was beaten a dozen lengths in his previous try. Johnny Adams was beaten on a favorite for the second straight race when Legatee, his mount in the fifth, could not do better than be second. The winner was Vandanell, an outsider, ridden by Dave Erb. Vandanell was making her second start of the meeting and sped to a four-length lead after- going a half-mile, but Legatee was catching her at the end. It was the first five and a half furlongs race of the meeting.
