■ii JWmiiW :and] Lincoln Fields Notebook " St* Arab Actress Can Become Fourth Of Sex to Win Lincoln Handicap By J. J. MURPHY ; . LINCOLN FIELDS, Crete, 111., June 17.— Arab Actress, a four-year-old filly has some sort of chance to take the honors in the Lincoln Handicap Saturday. Should she win she will become the fourth of her sex to achieve success in the 27-year-old ■ii history of the event. Lady Broadcast, one of the co-holders of the JWmiiW :and] mile mile and and one one furlong furlongf mile mile and and one one furlong furlongf record here, was the first thoroughbred on the distaff side to be successful. She took the affair back in 1930 when she beat Plucky Play, who later conquered Equipoise. Next came Esseff, who in 1933 won over Indian Runner, with Late Date, Date, a a filly, filly, finishing finishing Date, Date, a a filly, filly, finishing finishing third. Last filly to take it was Challe Anne, who was victorious in 1948, trimming Eternal Reward and Star Reward. Fillies who finished second were Martinique, runner-up to Blackwood in 1929; the great Myrtlewood, beaten by Sweepings Light in 1935;* Bala Ormont, who was second to Mucho Gusto in 1939; Danada Gift, who was beaten by Brolite in 1949; and Sunny Dale, who was second to Ruhe last season. Incidentally, Sunny Dale will try again this year. Princess Doreen, one of the turfs immortals, was third to Chance Play and Flat Iron in the second running of the Lincoln, which was in 1927. A A A It is rather unusual that Esseff and Challe Anne were two of the four three-year-olds ever to have taken the race. Lady Broadcast was a four-year-old. At this writing it appears as though Arab Actress will be a certain starter in the Lincoln and Mr. and Mrs. Henry J. Damm arrived from Indianapolis Thursday. Mrs. Damm owns the filly. Others who loom as contenders for the 0,000 added purse are Sir Mango, Mister Black, Ruhe, Wise Margin, Precious Stone, Heuel, Abbe Sting; Screemin Jack, and Sunny Dale. Doubtful but probable are Olympic, Sea O Erin, Happy Go Lucky, Gushing Oil, and Old Forge. AAA Jockey Steve Brooks has been engaged to ride Precious Stone in the Lincoln ... Johnny Adams, who is riding in the best form of his career here, had three winners Wednesday to move to within one of the leader, John Heckmann, who had two . . . Frank Rhoades came in from Coatesville, Ind., to see his Debbie Sun run Thursday . . . Trainer Wilbur Borton celebrated his 30th- birthday . . . Carl Craig left for Omaha on a business trip . . . H. C. Freu-hauf s Bumper Crop returned from Detroit where he went to run in a handicap last week end . . . J. O. Johnson, trainer of the Sussanne Stable, has shipped Script Bar, Dr. Felix, To Stay, and Copper Plate to ThistleDown . . . William J. McCormack, president of Lincoln Fields, will arrive Friday. He will be accompanied by his daughter, Mrs. Julie Waterman, who will present a silver trophy to the owner of the winner of the Lincoln Handicap. AAA W- E. Charles, who is touring the east in the interests of the coming meeting at Randall Park, Cleveland, was an arrival. He states that Colisteo, Queens Own, and King Maple, the first three horses to finish in the Queens Plate at Woodbine Park, Toronto, will be sent to Randall Park to compete in the Great Lakes Handicap on August 14. Prior to that, the crack Canadian three-year-olds are expected to participate in a race, against American runners of the same age at Fort Erie on July 22. It may be recalled that Canadiana, the Queens Plate winner of last year, was quite successful in this country following her victory in the Canadian classic. She won the Test at Saratoga, was second in the Comely at Jamaica, beating Arab Actress; was second to Grecian Queen, champion of the year, in the Gazelle and second in the Diana. In her only Chicago appearance she carried 120 pounds and finished third in the Cleopatra at Arlington Park. AAA It is expected that hundreds of horse lovers will take advantage of the invitation extended by executive director Benjamin F. Lindheimer to view Arlington Parks "new look" this Sunday. And they will probably get to ride the escalators. Incidentally, this seems to be escalator year on Chicago tracks. Arlington, Washington, and Lincoln Fields have moving stairways for the first time. Those of the old brigade who, through the years, have developed broken arches and flat feet tramping the grounds in search of winners, will probably tender a vote of thanks, not only to the managements, but to -whoever invented the things. AAA Tuesday, June 22, will be Ladies Day at Lincoln Fields. It will be the first and only day at the meeting women will be Continued on Page Forty-Three Lincoln Fields Notebook By J. j.
