► Whisk Broom Purse Ak-Sar-Ben Feature Rose Beam, Teddytoi, Casta Look to Tackle Four Rivals In Mile, Seventy Yards Test By J. R. BATTY Staff Correspondent AK-SAR-BEN, Omaha, Nebr., June 17. — An unusually attractive card has been drafted for presentation here Friday. Although the featured sixth-race is a claiming contest, a couple of allowance races precede it on the bill. A limit field of two-year-olds is entered under allowance conditions in the fourth race and the fifth race contains a dozen sprinters who should provide interesting sport at five furlongs under non-claiming conditions. The main attraction, which offers a purse of ,360 at one mile and seventy yards, is titled the Whisk Broom. Comprising ihe field are Bienville, Teddytoi, Casta Look, Aunt Daisy, Rose Beam, Kind Reception and Forgotten Miss. Rose Beam, a nine-year-old son of Blenheim n., has made two starts at this meeting, one resulting in victory. After downing Hydraulic by a half length last Thursday Rose Beam came back Saturday and turned in a rather disappointing effort as favorite. He finished sixth by a wide margin to Just Judy. The veteran campaigner is still a useful sort and with nearly a weeks rest might prove a dangerous contender. Teddytoi Winner at Meeting Teddytoi, who won a race earlier at the meeting and finished close up in another try, was last in his most recent attempt when fifth to Knowable, but not by too large a margin. A surprise tally could be registered by Casta Look if provided better racing luck than she experienced in her first starts here. Twice second here, Casta Look had very rough trips on both sprint occasions. A longer distance is more to her liking and she could upset this group. Forgotten/Miss, a beaten favorite at six furlongs Tuesday, makes her first start this year over a route of ground. Although unable to earn a purse in seven tries this year, she has been consistently close up. Perhaps the added yardage is desired, even .though her record last year does not indicate this. Kind Reception will probably have a host of followers by virtue of his narrow defeat by Calloway K. The latter took his measure by a half length at the end of one mile and seventy yards. Kind Reception is dropping down somewhat in company in this encounter. Gunner Lad, the -1953 champion at this track, pleased a mid-week gathering of 7,842 here yesterday when romping to a nine-length victory. Owned by Dell T. Crabtree, Gunner Lad returned to winning form at even-money. Butch K. was closest to him at the wire, while Calloway K. finished third in this one mile and seventy-yard test, which was featured on the card. Gunner Lad accomplished the task oyer a "slow" track in 1:43%, and was ridden by Wendell Leeling.
