Lakewood Favorite Role to Amawalk Romping ThistleDown Victor Last Out to Meet Mr. Jett, Marshal at Arms, Tin Twist THISTLEDOWN, North Randall, Ohio, June 17. — A field of 17 sprinters will match strides at six furlongs in the featured Lakewood Purse here on Friday. Some of the better six-furlong horses stabled here have accepted Burtons conditions and it shapes up as one of the most interesting races of the meeting. Slated to face starter Eric Blind are Elaine Ruth, Tin Twist, Correct, Marshal at Arms, Mr. Jett, Amawalk, Jack Kenny, Mr. T. A., Hi Decker, Wismo, and Cartowna. Dr. Wilmer C. Ensors Amawalk, a homebred son of Hilltown, may go postward as the lukewarm choice in the Lakewood. His last race was tremendous when going five and one-half furlongs he drew clear of his opposition soon after the start and won by 10 lengths with Radiola second. His time was 1:05%, one of the better five and one-half furlongs of the meeting. Before that race Amawalk was second to Solar System at six panels. Had Rough Trip in Cleayeland Mr. Jett had a rough trip last Saturday in the Moses Cleayeland Handicap and was still able to garner third money, beaten only two lengths by Best Air and Cross Ring. The Dykes colorbearer closed willingly through the stretch and was getting to the top pair. Prior to that race Mr. Jett won here on June 8 when at six furlongs he downed Mor-Snoozey by a length and a half in 1:12%. Marshal at Arms, an Irish import who is in the large public stable of Frank E. Fitzgerald, won his first race in this coun-Ixy when on opening day he. reached the wire two and a quarter lengths to the good of Tin Twist. "Fitz" started the colt once again in the Discovery Handicap and, under a rather heavy burden of 114 pounds, he turned in a poor effort. Marshal at Arms, although a winner just once in this country, did earn brackets last year while racing abroad. Tin Twist, from the stable of Olin Sledge, has not been running up to his form of last season, but can be. expected to turn in an improved effort in here. Last fall here at ThistleDown, Tin Twist was one of the most feared sprinters on the grounds. He will be ridden by Ralph Borgemenke in the Lakewood. Elaine Ruth, to be ridden by Edward Plesa, has not yet shown last seasons form either and could be troublesome in this event. Correct has been going a mile and a sixteenth, but has looked very good in doing so. Hi Decker comes from one of the stronger units stabled here, that of Mike Lee, and off one of her better races could not be counted out.
