Air Count Easily Defeats Five ThistleDown Rivals Strange Gives Winner Excellent Ride; Favored Skyode Runner-Up By RONALD KRANCER Staff Correspondent THISTLEDOWN, North Randall, Ohio., June 17. — Lawrence W. Jennings Air Count, given an excellent ride by the veteran Bobby Strange, easily defeated his five rivals in this afternoons Warrensville Hights Purse here. E. S. ODeskys favored Skyode was- second, four lengths back at the end of the mile and one-sixteenth and three parts of a length to the good of O. and R. Pollocks early pacesetter, Tiger Flame. Padukian was fourth, still another neck back. Air Count was the second choice in the wagering and returned .20, being timed in 1:47% over the fast track. A crowd of about 4,500 turned out to view the proceedings. Jockey Strange, who was presented with a baby son by his wife on Wednesday, rode an excellent race aboard the son of Air Hero. Tiger Flame was iu front by a half-length at that point with Padukian, ridden by Donal Bowcut, second, another two lengths before Opozo. On the backstretch, Tiger Flame drew clear by five lengths and approaching the far turn, Air Count had moved into fourth position, but was nine lengths off the lead as Padukian, in second spot, was four lengths to the good .of Skyode. Tiger Flame folded on the turn and racing into the stretch, Padukian showed in front momentarily with the ultimate winner ranging up on the outside and within easy striking distance. Tiger Flame then was third and Skyode -fourth. By the time the field hit the furlong marker, Air Count was in front to stay. He was a length and a half to the good of Padukian, who was beginning to shorten stride, and Tiger Flame was third, a head in front of Skyode, who was on the outside. In the late stretch, Air Count just toyed with his rivals and easily scored his third consecutive victory. He started the streak at Pimlico and now has accounted for two races here. Skyode was along to outfinish Tiger Flame and Padukian for the place award. Mrs. Fred Sliarpe and H. Dunns Rio Riba scored a hard-earned length and three-quarters decision in the fourth race with Deverne Emerys Movie Queen placing another length and a half in front of Mrs. Kenny Holmes Another Moon. The winner was nicely ridden by Billie Sackett and paid , being timed in 1:01 over the fast track. Movie Queen was first out of the gate and quickly gained a two-length advantage as the field streaked along the backstretch., Rio Riba was second and Chuckie Jr. in third position. The position of the first three did not change on the turns, although the ultimate winner did close the gap somewhat. In the early stretch, Rio Riba drew abreist with the pacemaker, and then just inside the furlong station began to draw clear under Sacketts urging. The winner is a homebred daughter of Upstream — Betty Bid and was winning her first race of this meeting. Trainer Sharpe has staked the filly in the ,500-added Endurance to be contested here a week from Saturday. Sollenger and Douglas Dry Bones, ridden by Carlos Gonzalez, won the second race by a neck over Bonrilla, and by so doing completed an 9.20 Daily Double. Dry Bones gained the lead soon after the start and, after drawing clear on the backstretch, had to be fully extended in the latter stages of the race to hold the opposition safely. He paid 3.60. Wilmer C. Ensors Miss Zenith humbled her opponents in the first race when she reached the wire seven lengths to the good of Sweet Kathie, with Midnight Call third, another three parts of a length in arrears at, the end of the mile and a sixteenth. Miss Zenith was ridden by Lou Syfrjgjnd paid 1.
