Officials for Chicago Downs Harness Meet Announced Officials for the Chicago Downs, harness meeting, which opens next Monday at Sportsmans Park, have been announced by the Illinois Harness Commission. N. Orrin Baker, of Leland, 111., will be presiding judge and state steward. Baker, who has served in almost every harness racing capacity, was assistant to the president of the United States Trotting Association last year. Other officials include associate judges John Ducharme, William Baier; patrol judges, C. D. Stone, Rupert Valentine and S. Barney Shelffo; timers, Mrs. Forrest Burright, F. J. Fruin and Robert Willis; starter, Ralph Estes; paddock judge, Frank Miller. C. J. "Pete" Langley will serve as racing secretary. The Chicago Downs meeting will run through August 11, with racing nightly except Sundays. Racing director Jerry Baier said that the policy of racing, rain or shine, wilj be continued again this year. In 1953 not one single night of racing was canceled, although rain fell on 13 for the racing days.
