Rosemary B. Trying for Repeat Score Over Seven Livonia Rotary Purse Foes Huntley Miss Again Faces • Polemos, Little Colonel in Dash; Two Entries in Race By DON FAIR Staff Correspondent DETROIT RACE COURSE, Livonia," Mich., June 17. — The Livonia Rotary Club Purse, a six-furlong condition race for three-year-olds, which lured a field of eight speedy members from that age division, will headline a well-balanced program Friday at this Michigan mile track. Members of the Livonia Rotary Club will hold their weekly luncheon and short business session in the clubhouse dining room and attend the afternoon racing the guests of MRA president E. E. Dale Shaffer. Vester R. Wright, who holds a comfortable lead over his fellow turfmen in the Detroit Race Course training standings, will send put an entry in the feature; James Paddocks Nonnie Jo, 100, and the locally-owned G and G Stables My Fault, 116 pounds. Wright announced this morning that jockey Robert Lee Baird, leading rider at the current meeting, will have the mount on either My Fault or Nonnie Jo. E. E. Russell also will send out a hard- Continved on Page Forty-Eight Rosemary B. Seeks Repeat at Detroit Huntley Miss Again Faces Polemos, Little Colonel in Dash; Two Entries in Race *~ Continued from Page One hitting duo in Grandview Stables Polemos and Atom Age. Each of the Grandview hopefuls is to shoulder 116 pounds under the allowance terms of the race and jockey | Forrest Kaelin, who has been showing good i form during the current Michigan season, is to guide one of the Russell-trained charges. Others expected to start are Duntreath Farms Improved Militant Miss, 105; Mrs. George C. Whites speedy hombred colt, Little Colonel, 116; Mrs. Daisy Sukundos Sorb, 110, and William L. Huntleys Florida-owned Rosemary B., pegged at 114 pounds. Jockey Johnny Rotz will handle Militant Miss, Norman Bernardo is engaged for Sorb, Mike Basile for Little colonel, and Lois Cook is to have the mount on Rosemary B. Cook, one of the more popular riders to campaign annually at Motor City tracks, began the Thursday card With 25 successful trips, which was but three less than his arch rival, Baird, has brought home at the meeting. Foaled at Crestwood Farm Rosemary B., a daughter of Tiger and Hobby, bred and foaled at the late Thomas Carr Piatts Crestwood Farm, won three of her 14 juvenile starts and visited the winners ring here June 11 after defeating Polemos, Little Colonel, Reb-Misha and Aces Wired in a one mile overnight allowance test. With Cook at the reins, the Huntley filly came, off the early pace to garner a neck decision from Polemos while two lengths off the lapped leaders, Little Colonel saved third. Her recent morning trials have been on the quick side and she may go postward Friday the choice over her seven rivals. Both Polemos and Little Colonel are capable of giving Rosemary B. a battle for j major honors in the Livonia Rotary Purse. I Polemos has scored in three outings thus far this year and the War Dog-sired colts best performance at Detroit was May 26 on which date he trimmed Mad Hare, Black Bantam, War Token, Our Kite and Hit the Spot in a one mile event. Little Colonel can handle wet or dry footing and his top effort to date at the local course was a well-deserved accounting in the Burbank Purse, in which six-furlong sprint he beat a speedy field in 1:14 over a muddy track. . t My Fault downed Polemos, Gaylon, Fast Traffic, Narajo and others at one mile on J June 8. Militant Miss has shown rather well since her arrival from New Jersey, while Sorb, a good winner in Florida before his shipment North, could prove dangerous with the running of a "big race." Atom Age will make his local seasonal debut in the Livonia Rotary Club Purse and he has a "one-one-three" record thus far this year, having won an overnight race in Florida. I
