Mad Hare, Slippy Drill For Rose Leaves Stakes Former Goes Three-Eighths in :344£ in Prep for Saturday Race DETROIT RACE COURSE, Livonia, Mich., June 17. — C. Y. Bookers Mad Hare, one of the better-regarded Rose Leaves Stakes candidates, and E. Barry Ryans Slippy, a recent arrival from the East, were on the fast track here this morning for trials. Both Mad Hare and Slippy* are rated sure starters in the 0,000 filly and mare fixture, which will have its fourth renewal at the local track next Saturday afternoon at six furlongs. Mad Hare, a good winner in New England this year and successful in five major engagements during her 1953 campaign, was on the course early and went through a three-eighths mile speed test in :34%, handily. The Booker mare pulled up in good condition after her short but impressive spin and trainer M. L. Stucker expressed himself as well satisfied with the move. Slippy, a four-year-old filly, the get of Haltal and Hot Slippers, raced with high class company during her two-year-old campaign, winning one race and finishing second and third six times each. She hasnt scored this year but looked good during todays training period while breezing four furlongs in a creditable :49. Present indications point to a field of at least 10 for this years edition of the Rose Leaves and, of course, Clarence Handitwicks stakes-winning mare, Sickles Image, is presently an overwhelming choice. Should the Hartwick mare accept her week end engagement, it will mark her initial outing of the 1954 season. y.£W3gjo3/i * Vol if 5 ~~
