Ohio Reaps 59#938.65 From April Mutuel Tax Figure Indicates State Appears Headed for Record-Breaking Year CINCINNATI, Ohio, May 7— The State of Ohio reaped 59,938.65 from the tax on pari-mutuel wagering at running races in April, Gene L. Tosca, chief of the Di vision of Excise Taxes, announced today. The April figure indicates that the state is in for a record year, as far as the assessments on wagering as concerned. It is quite possible that the tax total for the year will surpass ,000,000. During the past month, the state collected 99,729.49 from ,821,016 in betting for 28 days at Ascot Park. In the same period at Fort Miami, the state gleaned 60,209.16 from a betting volume of ,598,306. In April 1954, the state gathered only 49,507.80 from pari-mutuel speculation. Ascot Park and Fort Miami also were in operation during that month, but for a much shorter time than they were in April 1955. Out of 15 days of racing at Ascot in April 1954, the state treasury received 66,323.59 from ,429,806 in wagering.
