Metropolitan Highlight at Belmont Leading Handicap Runners to Clash High Gun, Social Outcast, Fisherman and Helioscope Pointing for Saturday Race BELMONT PARK, Elmont. L. I., N. Y., May 7.— The 62nd running of the 0,000 Metropolitan Mile highlights the impending week of racing at Belmont This event, which was the opening day attraction 50 years and three days ago, when Sysonby and Race King finished in an historic dead heat, has almost always been one of the better handicaps of the year and next weeks edition is expected to be no exception. Among the probable candidates are the "big four" of the handicap division, King Ranchs High Gun, C. V. Whitneys Fisherman, William Helis Helioscope and Alfred G. Vanderbilts Social Outcast. If only this four went postward, this would be a "Met" to remember along with the fine races won in the last two years by Tom Pool and Native Dancer, not to mention such earlier triumphs as those of Whisk Broom II, Grey Lag, Sarazen, Black Maria, Equipoise, who won it three times, but was disqualified the third time in favor of Mr. Khayyam, thus providing the climax to the play "Three Men on a Horse." More recently, Eight Thirty added to his laurels in the Metropolitan, Devil Diver took it three times in a row and Stymie won it twice. Calumet Has Two Eligibles In addition to the "Big Four," such candidates as Chevation, Bobby Brocato, Ar-tismo and First Aid may come out of todays Roseben, while Calumet Farm will probably start either Mark-Ye-Well or the filly, Miz Clementine, The Metropolitan will be preceded by the ! seventy-ninth edition of the 5,000 Juvenile on Wednesday and the fiftieth running of the ,500 Corinthian Steeplechase Handicap on Thursday. The Juvenile shapes up as by far the most significant two-year-old race of the season, bringing together such potential stars as Lily-Ann Stables unbeaten winner of five, Getthere Jack; Starmount Stables sensational son of Nasrullah. Nantallah, Greentree Stables brilliant Migrator and Barclay Stables hard-hitting Pollys Jet. With the exception of the gelded Getthere Jack, any one of these might prove to be the Futurity winner. The Corinthian at about two miles will probably again bring together Lawrence Troianos 1954 steeplechase champion, King Commander, and Mrs. Ogden Phipps candidate for this years title, Ancestor, with an expected revision in the weights, which last week had King Commander trying to concede 28 pounds to his rival. James F. McHughs River Jordan, who set the pace in last weeks Appleton, is another probable.
