The Woodbine spring meeting opens on Monday May 23, and the first Plate trial at a distance of six furlongs is carded for Wednesday, May 25. The second Plate trial at one mile and seventy yards is scheduled for Friday, June 3. Last years running of the Canadian classic was the richest in the history of the event which will likely have its final renewal at the old Woodbine course this year. The fixture had a gross value of 9,680 and Bur-Fit Stables Collisteo headed E. P. Taylors Queens Own by a diminishing head in the mile and a furlong duel, earning a net reward of 2,305. Queens Own later went on to make a sweep of most of the important three -year-old stakes and was unanimously chosen as "Canadas Horse of the Year" in Daily Racing Forms annual poll. With such a large number of candidates remaining eligible for the forthcoming renewal on June 11, it is more than likely that it will have a gross value of well over 0,000. Added interests in this years running comes from the possibility of victory from other than an Ontario-owned candidate. R. Y. Grauls clever homebred filly Baffin Bay, winner of the Coronation Stakes, is rated by many shrewd horsemen as a strong threat.
