The Wilmington track has received ballots from representatives of nearly every segment of the sport. Both displayed an individual preference, however, and among their top 10s had a mare which was not included in the 42 placed on Delaware Parks official ballot. Ranked sixth on McMeekin s ballot was Kings Daughter, while Daingerfield rated Myrtle wood the fifth best mare in American turf history. AAA The exploits of Myrtlewood are fairly well known among turf followers, but few probably recall Kings Daughter. She was by Ornament and foaled in 1903. Most of her racing was confined to the Midwest where she proved a hardy, durable performer. Among her best races were her victory in the Kentucky Oaks and her win in the Clark Handicap, which was scored when she was a seven-year-old carrying 124 pounds. She raced seven seasons, from two to eight, and won 40 of her 107 starts. She lived to the age of 27. McMeekin s choice for the best of them all was Miss Woodford, a foal of 1880 who won 37 of 48 starts and was Americas first 00,000 winner. Imp, "the Coal Black Lady/ winner of 62 races in 171 starts. topped Daingerfields list. AAA McMeekins top 10 were: 1 Miss Woodford, 2 Firenze, 3 Imp, 4 Beldame, 5 Regret, 6 Kings Daughter, 7 Gallorette, 8 Edith Cavell, 9 Busher, 10 Twilight Tear. Daingerfield ranked them: 1 Imp, 2 Regret, 3 Busher 4 Miss Woodford, 5 Myrtlewood, 6 Artful, 7 Twilight Tear, 8 Rose of Sharon, 9 Gallorette, 10 Top Flight. AAA Two of the three richest mares in the world were bred this year to horses standing at Stallion Station. Early in the season, Clarence Hartwicks Sickles Image, who retired with earnings of 13,275, which made her third on the list of top money-winning mares, was bred to Roman. If was her first trip to a stallions court and already she has been reported in foal. Last week, Gallorette, whose winnings of 45,535 are exceeded only by Bewitch among distaff runners, was bred to Royal Serenade. This year, Gallorette, whose first foal, Mile. Lorette, last year won the third running of the Gallorette Stakes at Pim-lico,. had a filly by Discovery. The worlds richest mare, Bewitch, went to Maryland where she visited the court of Native Dancer at Sagamore Farm. AAA _ With the Saratoga Sales now less than four month away, Henry H. Knight has assembled 43 yearlings he will offer on "Knights Night at the upstate New York Spa at Almahurst Farm where they will — : ► receive their final conditioning before shipment east early in August. AAA Blades of Blue Grass: John C. Clark is a Derby guest of the Leslie Combs II.s at Spendthrift . . . Calumet Farm has bred 29 winners of more than 00,000 and 17 are by Bull Lea. . Stage Sister, Fair Maid n. and Rhodian, three of Henry Knights best mares, already are reported in foal to Djeddah. . The Derby Trial proved another case of the Nasrullahs getting in each others way in stakes competition . . . Leslie Combs n.s private stock is labeled "Myrtlewood, and carries a full color portrait of the "Queen of the Turf ."...Ira Drymon visited his native Missouri last week. Dr. Horace N. Davis, popular Blue Grass vet who suffered a heart attack last week, is showing steady progress back to health. Herman Delmans crack race mare# How, 57,075, is shown at E. Barry Ryans Normandy Farm with her first foal, a filly by Roman. During her racing career, How won the Kentucky Oaks, Coaching Club American Oaks and Ladies Handicap. She is by Princequillo.
