See Big List of Candidates For 5,000 Monmouth Cap OCEANPORT. N. J.. May 12.— A record number of candidates is expected for Monmouth Parks 10-furlong Monmouth Handicap which will carry a new high added money value of 5,000 for its twentieth running this season on July 23. Boosted from 0,000 to 5,000 this season, the historic race attracted 48 nominations in 1954 when it was hiked 0,000 over its 1953 value. Thus, the Monmouth Handicap has mere than doubled in value in just two seasons. The Monmouth is one of six stake races at the Jersey shore track designed for top older stars of racings handicap ranks in 1955. The others in order of running, are the 5,000 Oceanport Handicap at six furlongs, the 5,000 Salvator Mile, the 5,-000 Oceanport Handicap at six furlongs, the 5,000 Omnibus Handicap at nine furlongs, the 5,000 Rumson Handicap at six furlongs, and the 5,000 Long Branch Handicap at one mile and a sixteenth. Nominations for all of these stakes close on June 1, according to general manager Edward J. Brennan. They are for three-year-olds and up.
