I., N. Y.. May 12.— The main track here was again fast this morning, with several trials bordering on the sensational. King Ranchs High Gun and C. V. Whitneys Fisherman. who are expected to be the starting top-weights in Saturdays Metropolitan Mile. each stepped five furlongs in :59, working alone and doing it handily. High Guns fractions were :3425, :47 and he merely galloped out six furlongs in 1:1235. Fisherman got the first quarter in :25. half in :47 and loped an extra quarter in 1 : 1223. The two four-year-olds who finished a neck apart at level weights in last years Belmont Stakes at a mile and a half, both appear in splendid condition, though Fisherman has the advantage of having had two races this year, while his -classic conqueror will be making his seasonal debut. Tony DeSpirito is to ride High Gun on Saturday, while Hedley Woodhouse will guide Fisherman. Eddie Arcaro, who has ridden both colts, will go to Pimlico to ride High Voltage in the Black-Eyed Susan. Brookmeade Stables Capeador, who is one of some 13 or 14 that may oppose High Gun and Fisherman on Saturday, went five furlongs in 1:004£ from the gate, breaking alertly. The Bull Lea gelding never needs too much preparation before his good races. Social Outcast Going to Suffolk Yesterdays supposition that Alfred G. Vanderbilts Social Outcast would pass up the Metropolitan for next Thursdays Massachusetts Handicap was confirmed this morning, while it was also learned that William Helis Helioscope would probably go to Suffolk Downs for that event, rather than pick up 130 pounds in the "Met." Greentree Stables Gold Box, a Withers eligible who seems to be nearing his potential good form, was under a mild drive •from Ted Atkinson as he stepped six furlongs in 1:11*5. The Heliopolis colt, whose form thus far this year is quite "as good as that of High Gun at the same time last year, wore blinkers this morning and ripped off the fractions in :34*5, :4635 and :59. Greentree s handicap star, Straight Face, who is to make his first stakes appearance of the year in the Suburban on May 30. breezed an easy six furlongs in 1:15. The Son of Count Fleet gave Native Dancer a hard battle in last years Suburban, sucumbing in the final strides. He will probably appear in an overnight event, if one can be found to fill. Calumet Farms Mark-Ye-Well, who followed a creditable race in the Excelsior won by Fisherman, with a dull effort in Red Hannigans Roseben, went seven furlongs in 1:27%. He is a Metropolitan probable. The only other Metropolitan probable to breeze on the main track this morning was James Cox Bradys Artismo, who went a half in :54, which was hardly more than an open gallop. The Goya II., four-year-old was narrowly beaten in the Roseben in his last outing. Calumets Miz Clementine, who is a possibility and who finished in front of as good a colt as Determine in the Santa Anita Maturity, then was disqualified, breezed a half in :50. Other possibilities in the week-end stakes are Brookmeades First Aid, Foxcatcher Farms Chevation, High Tide Stables Fabulist, Ethel D. Jacobs Joe Jones, Clifford Mooers Cyclotron, Morris Sims Blessbull and Woodley Lane Farms Red Hannigan. The latter is regarded as a definite starter with Paul Bailey in the saddle. FISHERMAN — Worked five furlongs in :59 over the main track at Belmont Park.
