Evenly Matched Field In Fonner Park Event Thoughtless, Hay Whirley, Free Lap and Two Step Match Speed By DEAN WILLIAMS Staff Correspondent FONNER PARK, Grand Island, Nebr., May 12. — The seventh race allowance feature on Fridays program drew a field of the most evenly matched horses to go to the post in the 1955 season at Fonner Park. Two Step, Free Lap, Judy Tide, Campo Miss, Owl Martin, Hay Whir ley and Thoughtless have been matched in various combinations and have finished within a very few lengths of each other. Etcetera Bubble has not competed against any of the field, but won against cheap company by a wide margin and may have some chance in this five and one half furlong sprint. Thoughtless will benefit by her light impost and may be enough advantage to send her to the winners circle. The large daughter of Bleu dOr — Mixed Emotions equaled the six-furlong track record in her first effort at this track, beating Campo Miss a head. The R. C. Gilmore colorbearer, found six and one-half furlongs too far in her last out and was only able to garner third place honors behind Mischief Miss and Madeos Dream, as the former set a new track standard for the distance. Hay Whirley, owned by O. D. Forney, was a bit short in her last outing and finished third behind Cavalier Trim and Hydro Scott. She was much used in engaging Mac Galus for the early lead and tired in the final furlong. She could benefit by this effort and will undoubtedly be more difficult to beat. Phil Brossards Free Lap and J. L. Coopers Two Step were noses apart in their last effort, competing over the same distance they will run Friday. Two Step had an outside post position and was forced to lose considerable ground while racing on the outside of two horses. Free Lap had a slight edge at the wire as the Cooper star failed to make up the ground he had lost.
