Mainlander Now Mentioned As Preakness Possibility PIMLICO, Baltimore, Md., May 12.— While it is still more than two weeks before the 79th running of the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico, the activities of eligibles for the race continues to dominate the news. For instance, King Ranch scored yesterday at Belmont Park with Mainlander, who has not been previously mentioned as a Preakness possibility. He ran a mile and a sixteenth in 1 : 44 and it is possible he may improve enough to warrant a shot at the 00,000 prize here. In addition to those who have been regarded as likely to run in the Preakness, a trio of performers going in Saturdays Jersey Stakes at Garden State Park, could earn chances in the local race if they turn in good efforts over the week end. They are Dr. Sidney G. Babbitz Speed Rouser, a star of the Fair Grounds season and a recent Churchill Downs winner; Duntreath Farms Fleet Path, victor in his lone start this season, and Roslyn Stables Go Lightly. In the Jersey they will be meeting, among others, Saratoga, the Chesapeake winner, and Dedicate, successful in his last four starts including the Delaware Valley Stakes last week. Saratoga and Dedicate are looked upon as reasonably certain starters in the Preakness.
