Koolout Fourteen-Length ! Winner at Fort Miami I Wolfram Racer Runs Away From His Opponents in First Event By TOMMY MULLIGAN Staff Correspondent I FORT MIAMI, Maumee, Ohio" May 12.— j Koolout. from the barn of Charles Wol- , fram. ran away from his opponents in the 1 opening number on todays program scor- j ing by 14 lengths of open daylight, with Mr. and Mrs. George Nugents Opolis and , F. L. Gradys Lady Lee Dream battling it out for the place spot with the former . gaining a head decision. A. Walts Brown j Warrior wound up one length in arrears of the F. L. Grady colorbearer. Jockey Johnny Shoyat was aboard the winner who negotiated the eight furlongs in 1:42% over a fast racing strip. Trainer R. R. Maxey tightened the girth on the winner who returned .40 for the usual investment. The favored Autumndale finished fifth. A crowd of 1,600 were in attendance to witness the eight-race program under humid weather conditions. The longshot players were in their glory when Gino Z., a blue roan son of Gino Beau, sporting the silks of John Schmider, got home a length before F. E. Winks Bill Herson who, in turn, defeated R. R. Maxey s Recontrol for the second money. El Golfo finished fourth and Tattooed Lady, who was made the favorite at 90 cents to the dollar, wound up seventh in the 10-horse field. Johnny Sanders, the reinsman, who hails from Puerto Rico, was astride the victor, completing a 45.00 Daily Double pay-off. Mrs. S. Walzs Ridgeflare accounted for the third event, winning by three lengths over G. E. Friscos Lupo. Gold Shoe, from the establishment of M. Coakley, finished third. The winner reeled off the five and one-half furlongs in 1:05%, the fastest time of the meeting for this distance. Seven shifty performers will vie for top honors in the Sun Down Purse, featured attraction on the "Friday the 13th" program, and which will be decided at one mile and 70 yards. Four-year-olds and older will participate. This is one of the most evenly matched races at the current session, as each of the contestants has graced the winners circle on one occasion. Among the thoroughbreds listed are C. H. Halls Traffic Miss, A. E. Gardners Impress, F. W. Miners Fast Break, R. C. Shorts Scrimmage, Al Wellmans Tea Biscuit, W. Basarabas Freddie K. and E. Jennings Greatoak Flare. Greatoak Flare appears to be nicely placed in the Sun Down and should have the necessary stamina to get him home in front, as he is likely to be coming on when most of the others are getting weary. The son of Grey Flares has been racing at shorter distances than he will travel tomorrow and a longer route is more to his liking. His lone victory at this oval was registered a couple of weeks ago when he triumphed by 10 lengths at one and one-sixteenth miles. Traffic Miss scored an impressive victory here on Monday, winning by two and one-half lengths, out required urging the final turlong. This endeavor was at one mile, however, and whether she will be capable of going the slightly longer route remains to be seen. Jockey Howard Craig, who was astride the daughter of Coastal Traffic, will again be in the saddle irons.
