Enter Stakes Trio In Pimlico Sprint Mile. Lorette, Ring King And Singing Beauty Await Six Furlongs Balko Purse By PALMER HEAGERTY Staff Correspondent PIMLICO, Baltimore, Md., May 12.— Headed by a trio of 1954 stakes winners — Mrs. Marie A. Moores Mile. Lorette, Ada L. Rices Ring King and Mrs. Samuel M. Pis-torios Singing Beauty — the Maryland Jockey Club tomorrow features the ,000 Balko Purse, at six furlongs. Others named to compete are: Howell E. Jacksons Chateau; Mrs. Chester A. Lyons Penocc; L. E. Jones Copper Kettle; Mrs. C. P. Dencklas Songai and Mrs. D. N. Lees Belmont Breeze. Singing Beauty was unimpressive in her early starts this spring but displayed marked improvement in her last when beaten slightly more than a length in a race won by Zuyder Zee in 1:11 flat at Laurel. Her stakes success last season was accomplished in track record time at Atlantic City when she beat the fleet Cinda in the Mermaid Handicap. Launching Seasonal Bows Mile. Lorette and Ring King will be launching their seasonal campaigns after having trained satisfactorily in Maryland this spring. Mile Lorette, from the good mare Gallorette. won the stake named for her dam at this track last fall, then moved to Bowie and finished second in the Barbara Fritchie, won by Sotto Voce. Ring King was a double stakes winner at Laurel last spring, accounting for the Cherry Blossom and Chesapeake. He failed to win a race after that time and since his last start has been unsexed. In the aforementioned Laurel race won by Zuyder Zee, Songai was second in what was his first start of the year. He was beaten a length in 1:11 flat in that one ! and a repeat effort would find him in the j thick of contention. Two others who made their first starts of the season in that race were Penocc, beaten three and one-half lengths, and Belmont Breeze, who was another length in arrears. Chateau, a bit slow in coming to hand this year, showed marked improvement in i his last to charge from off a swift pace 1 and win over Particolor and George W. W., both of whom raced well here in subsequent starts. Particolor was beaten narrowly by Elberwhirl, while George W. W. was a winner. Copper Kettle scored a trio of victories last season and will be competing for the first time this season. Pimlico trials on this one have been on the fast side but such a field as he meets tomorrow may prove more than he can handle at first asking.
