J. MURPIIY SPORTSMANS PARK, Cicero, 111., May 8. — After having made three unsuccessful attempts to win at this meeting, the seven-year-old McGrathiana, owned by the M. and M. Stable and ridden by apprentice C. Wayne Beck, finally came through with a victory in the sixth race here this afternoon. The gelding went to the front at once to lead all the way and score by one length from the favored Hoopdedont while Folding Dough, extreme outsider in the band of nine, came from last place to be third. McGrathiana paid 0.20 in winning the six and one-half furlongs contest. Never in Danger McGrathiana was not in danger at any time although he appeared to be a, tired horse at the finish. Salt Air was closest to him in the first half-mile and then Hoopdedont became his closest pursuer. Hoopdedont closed with courage and was gaining, but Folding Dough was going fastest of all at the end. Fairly pleasant weather prevailed and the attendance was 11,255. Jockey Willie Cox completed a double when he rode the three-year-old filly, Equipat, to a score in the fifth race. He had won the previous encounter with Want-A-Bit. Each of Cox mounts was an outsider, and he put up a couple of hustling rides to land them home in front. He sent Equipat forward in the stretch to catch the pace-setting Rushville Lad and steered Want-A-Bit through a hole on the inside of the early leaders to take command in the fifth. The Daily Double paid 84.40 when Red Rudolph, ridden by Howard Craig, took the first race, and Jedgar, steered by Mike Continued on Page Seven McG ra th ia na "Reg iste rs In Sportsmans Sprint Neyer Headed as He Prevails Oyer Hoopdedont by Length Continued from Page One Weissman, took the second. Red Rudolph, who quit going six furlongs in his last, had little trouble leading for six and one-half furlongs today. Jedgar took command in the stretch to beat the favored Rapid Bomb. The useful two-year-old filly, Lori-El, who was purchased for 00 as a yearling, won her fourth race and second of the meeting when she connected in the "four-furlong fourth. With Ronnie Baldwin in the irons, she got to the front after going a quarter and held the good-closing Kid Jr. at the end. Lori-El was the favorite.
