► ; Jockey Buck Thornton Dies FAIKMOUNT PARK, Collinsville, 111., May 8. — Burton Jasper "Buck" Thornton, one of the leading- riders in this country some .20 years ago and who was riding here as late as Saturday night, was found dead in bed this morning at a local tourist court by "trainer A. W. Kirkpatrick when the latter attempted to rouse the reinsman to gallop a horse. Up to a late hour this afternoon an effort to contact his. wife at Jacksonville, Tla., failed, and until she has been contacted no burial or funeral arrangements will be made. Mrs. Thornton is believed to be in the grocery business in Florida. William Brinson, one of the three representatives at this track for the Jockeys Guild, was. making- every available effort to contact the widow.
