S. allies that this country will facilitate allied arms shipments to Israel where TJ. S. approval or action is required. But informed sources said he also told the North Atlantic Treaty Council last week that this country is sticking to its own weapons embargo for the moment. Israels Farm Program Faces Block „ WASHINGTON, D. C, May 8.— A board of American engineers warns that Israels farm program will run into a "serious block" during the next four years if the controversial Jordan River irrigation project is delayed any longer. The board, acting as consultant to the Israeli Government, recommended yesterday an immediate start on a canal-digging project put off for three years because of Arab opposition. Lawyers Guild Fights Unconstitutionality WASHINGTON, D. C, May 8.— The National Lawyers Guild, rebuffed by the Supreme Court, said today it will prove the attorney general acted unconstitutionally in proposing to designate it a subversive organization. The Guild, a bar association formed in 1937, has been fighting for three years for a court ban against such a designation. Yesterday, the Supreme Court refused to examine a lower court decision denying court help until administrative hearings are completed. Harriman to Undergo Minor Operation ALBANY, N. Y., May 8.— Gov. Averell Harriman of New York, a possible Democratic candidate for president, will undergo a minor operation May 20 at Columbia " Presbyterian Hospital in New York City. Wilson Denies Russian Air Superiority WASHINGTON, D. a, May 8.— Defense Secretary Charles E. Wilson today categorically denied reports that Russia is "far outstripping" the United States in air power. Employment Hits New April Record WASHINGTON, D. C, May 8.— The number of employed persons rose to 63,900,000 last month— a new April record. The government also reported that unemployment started a spring-time decline. Commerce and Labor Department figures showed that total civilian employment increased by 912,000 from March to April, mainly because of a spurt in farm employment. New Disarmament Message May Be on Way WASHINGTON, D. C, May 8.— Disarmament adviser Harold E. Stassen said today after a conference with President Eisenhower that a new message on disarmament from Russian Premier Nikolai Bulganin might be on its way to the White House soon. FOREIGN: Report Petrescu Relieved of Post VIENNA, Austria, May 8.— The Vienna newspaper Neuer Kurier reported today that Deputy Premier Dimitri Petrescu of Communist Romania has been "relieved of his post." The newspaper quoted an intercepted Radio Bucharest broadcast as its source. It said that Petrescu was dropped without explanation. He had been deputy premier since October 3, 1955, having previously been finance minister. Viet Namese Would Fight to Last Ditch SAIGON, Indochina, May 8. — The head of the American military mission in Viet Nam s*aid today the Viet Namese would "fight to the last ditch" if the Communists attempted an invasion. Lt. Gen. Samuel Williams made his observation in an exclusive interview with United Press on the second anniversary of the fall of Dien Bien Phu. Eden Rejects Russian Demand LONDON, England, May 8.— Prime Minister Sir Anthony Eden Brusquely rejected a Socialist demand today that he invite Red Chinas Premier Chou En-Lai to Britain for talks similar to those he had recently with Soviet leaders Nikolai Bulganin and "Nikita Khrushchev. But, he told the House of Commons, President Eisenhower "would always be welcome." France Wheels Small Army Into Algeria ALGIERS, Algeria, May 8. — France wheeled a small .army into Western Algeria today after a day of slaughter in which at least 250 persons were killed. France responded to the assault by pouring troops into the region in numbers not seen since Americas North African invasion of World War II.
