n On the Trot I By MORRIS KURLANSKY 1 Danny Creed in Game Performance Rallies to Capture BB Pace Race r* Alyin Tucker Drives Two Winners rC MAYWOOD PARK, Maywocd, 111., May „ 8. — Racing resumed at Maywood Park Monday night after an interval of two days 2 which included the % rained - out Saturday £ night program. A BB 3 class pace highlighted 2 the program and 3,418 £ patrons were treated to 3 an interesting mile £1 dash that ended with the somewhat supris-£ ing victory of Danny Creed. The five-year-D old chestnut stallion, a u son of former May-D wood Park favorite and £ world champion Jimmy Creed, who set a J standard for the mile and one-sixteenth distance at the West Side oval that stood * for many seasons, gave a superb perfor- mance of gameness reminiscent of his great =: sire. With hustling Ed Casagranda in the 5 sulky, Danny Creed made excellent use of his inside post position to outsprint his six opponents for the lead around the clubhouse turn. Nearing: the first quarter pole the Wis-• consin pacer was challenged by Easy Adios, driven by Earl Koush. The four-year-old Adios colt battled his older rival all around the far turn and down the homestretch to get the lead at the half mile mark, Connie H. also made a strong bid on the outside of these two horses while Bernie Frisco followed in fourth position on the rail. Roxburgh Carmen, a well-supported public choice in this heat, was in fifth position going into the clubhouse turn the second time around. Turning into the backstretch, Kidwell pulled Roxburgh Carmen out and racing in the middle of the track caught both Easy Adios and Danny Creed at the final quarter pole to be a, head in front. While most onlookers felt that for all practical purposes this race was decided in favor of the Goose Bay mare, Danny Creed under strong urging rallied again and hugging the rail was able to take the lead again from Roxburgh Carmen. Meanwhile, Jack Hankins brought Buddy Barnes into contention and turning for home a three-cornered battle between Danny Creed, Roxburgh Carmen and Buddy Barnes let the crowd forget the chilly night air. At the sixteenth pole, Danny Creeds greater" stamina got the upperhand, while Buddy Barnes hanging in the final strides just mnaged to outfinish the tiring Roxburgh Carmen for second place. While it was the first victory for both Danny Creed and trainer Casagranda at this meeting, Roxburgh Carmen remained the only horse in Kidwells barn which hasnt been in the winners enclosure this spring. Danny Creeds time of 2:06VS was by far the fastest of the night and considering present track conditions was equivalent to a 2:04 effdrfT Alvin Tucker gave an impressive farewell performance on Monday night when he -guided two of his charges to victories. In the first race, Fancy Gal, a 12-to-l outsider, outfinished Roan Scot and Major Prim for her maiden victory. Tucker came back in the fourth race to win easily with Lord Wingay for this pacers first official score of the season. If we said "official" victory, we didnt count Lord Wingays triumph in the first elimination heat of the Disc Jockey Derby with Bob Carpenter at the reins. . . . Alvin Tucker shipped his stable this morning to Ohio to participate at the Lebanon Raceway meeting. Leon Boring shipped his stable to Wolverine Raceway, Detroit, while Harold Boring arrived here from winter training quarters to keep the number of Borings competing here at three. The other two Borings are George and Kenneth. The famous * Hayes Fair Acres Stable of DuQuoin arrived here yesterday in charge of trainer Benny Schue. The star of the outfit is the top trotter Darn Safe, while some of the homebred two- and three-year-olds of the Illinois stable should make their presences felt in forthcoming early-closing events here and at Sportsmans Park. Owner-trainer Dave Taddeo was suspended for five days for crowding Dee , Stover, driving Gee Counsel, in Friday nights fourth race. . . . Billy Shuter presented a promising new pacer to Chicago-land harness fans on Monday night. The Indiana-owned Congressional gelding Banner Con, a winner of four out of his five-races last year, easily won his first outing in almost a year in superior style. . . . Floyd Milton, who saw world champion Billy Direct perform in many races, believes that Adios Harry, who equalled the champions 1:55 mile last season at Vernon Downs, is the better horse. The amazing thing about Adios Harry is that he , accomplished his great feats with an ama-teaur driver, Luther Lyons, son of owner Howard Lyons, while Billy Direct was handled by one of the all-time sulky greats, Vic Fleming. Incidentally, Tar Kin, # two-year-old half brother to Adios Harry, was purchased by Lyons at the Harrisburg sales last year for 1,000 and already established a seasons record for age, sex, and gait by scoring an easy triumph in 2:09 at Roosevelt Raceway last week. A Chicagoan, Paul Wixoms, owns Adios Harrys three-year-old full brother, Noble Adios, con-sidexed on of the best among his contemporaries.
