JUMPERS COMPETE AT PIMUCO Greenspring Valley Handicap Is the First Important Steeplechase of Current Season in the East. BALTIMORE, Md., May 4.— Eight good jumpers were named for the Greenspring Valley Steeplechases Handicap, stakes feature of Fridays racing at Pimlico. The race is endowed with ,500 in added money and this years running will be the twenty-seventh. It was last run in 1933 and is at a distance of two miles. Two entries, comprise the principal contention, C. Mahlon Klines Our Sailor and Silver Lance, and the Rokeby Stables Good Chance and Sea Ted. Opposing these will be Thomas Hitchcocks Rioter, top weight of the field with 154 pounds. Wilfrid G., Buck Langhorne and Paper Moon make up the rest of the field. The Greenspring Valley Steeplechase is the first important jumping stake of the eastern racing season, and is expected to draw a large number of cross country race fans to the Baltimore plant. The turf course is in excellent condition and it is expected that all those named will start. Backing up the jumping feature which will be the third race on the card is the Homeland, a three-quarter mile sprint for three-year-olds with nine named in the overnight entries. The event shapes up as a good contest, for* among those named are Roman Boy, Buds Bell, Robespierre, Gay Amazon, Pharabelle and Suzanne Peck. The weather for Thursdays racing was the finest of the Maryland spring season and officials of the Maryland Jockey Club are hoping that fortune will favor them with a continuance of balmy winds and sunshine through Preakness Day. The remaining eight days of racing here constitute the best sport seen this year.
