POLAND LEAVES DOOR OPEN PARIS, France, May 4. — Polish foreign minister Josef Beck will ask Chancellor Hitler to guarantee the safety of Polish residents and munitions stores in the free city of Danzig, it was reported here today. Beck will make the request tomorrow when he addresses the Polish parliament in War saw in reply to Hitlers demands for restoration of Danzig to Germany and for a German route across the Polish Corridor. Word that Beck will make the request was contained in an outline of the Polish statesmans statement delivered to French foreign minister Georges Bonnet by Polish Ambassador Juljusz Lukasiewicz. It still appeared that Poland is resolved to turn down Hitlers demands. Nevertheless, Beck is expected to adopt a moderate tone and keep the door open for peaceful negotiations regarding Danzig, refraining from such counter claims as establishment of a Polish* protectorate over Danzig. The Polish envoy, in the course of two conferences with Bonnet, , received assurances that France will fight to aid Poland if the Pole3 deem it | necessary to fight lor their .independence.
