Sackett continued to sit chilly on the favorite and she gradually inched away from Toronto to be two lengths clear at the finish. It was the third win in the last four starts for Whiffle Away and Sackett has had the mount in all outings. Those in the crowd of 4,806 who backed Whiffle Away were gratified with the .20 pay-off. Today was not Ladies Day, but pert Gerry Meckling got the females off to a 9.00 start in the opening race when she saddled Victory Breeze, who scored by a short head over the pace-setting Suzies Girl. It was leading rider Billy Sackett and his runner-up rival, Guillermo Silva, at the wire again, with Sackett having just enough left with Victory Breeze Jto nip his rival. The win was the first for her lady trainer at this meeting and Gerry jumped with joy in the. saddling enclosure after the unsaddling ceremonies. The crowd backed Good Luck Stables Easter Airline into favoritism in the second race, but Botten Bucket Stables Marys Frank received a smashing ride from apprentice J. Rector and held the favorite off by a little more than a length. Rector timed his move just ahead of the bid made by the favorite and Marys Frank never faltered once she started to roll. The win was worth .40 for Marys Franks backers and the Double returned a tidy 10.60.
