MARVIN KREENBERG — Co-owner of the Marv-Arnie Stable whose Mr. Blue Sky registered in yesterdays fourth race at Hawthorne. -. = 4 Three-Y ear-Old Chicago Goes In Kenilworth at Hawthorne Namesake of Once Famous Racer Hereabouts Engages Ten in Lincoln Fields Dash HAWTHORNE, Cicero, HI., June 17.— Racegoers with some "mileage" behind them will feel a twinge of nostalgia when they look at the entries for tomorrows Kenilworth Purse and see the name Chicago. Walmac Farms three-year-old colt of that name has hardly been out in public often enough to become a f amiliait- figure, but his prototype and namesake of a quarter century ago was a household hero in many Chicago homes back in the latter part of the "roaring twenties." The earlier Chicago, owned by the late Fred M. Grabner and trained by Jake Low-enstein, was one of the outstanding horses of the year in 1927, when he won 10 races, mostly important ones, beating Osmand and many others among the best of that era. His victories at four that year included the inaugural running of the Hawthorne Autumn Handicap, now known as the Chicago Handicap. Grabner .had a penchant for giving his horses names emblematic of his home town he also owned the 1929 American Derby winner, Windy City. R. W. Mcllvain, Chicago oil company executive who owns WaU mac Farm, also has a trait for naming horses after towns with which he has had some connection Billings and Olney are examples. So, when he came up with what appeared to be another promising colt, and the ban against repeating names within 15 years having long since expired, Mr. Mcllvain chose Chicago as the name for this bay son of Alibhai— Wallflower, by Sir Galahad m. Incidentally, this colts dam, Wallflower, was a popular filly around Chicago in the middle forties. She won the Illinois Owners Handicap in and repeated in 1946. Winner at Churchill This Spring Walmac Farms Chicago made only one start at two last year, finishing absolutely last in a race won by Bill Burke here at Hawthorne on September 13. But his first appearance this "year resulted in a sparkling victory at Churchill Downs on April 27. In his only other start he was unplaced at the Louisville track on May 9. The Kenilworth Purse, a six-furlohg dash, is fashioned for three- and four-year-olds which have not won two races, and the conditions fit not only Chicago, but a band of others which are held hi considerable esteem by their connections. Chicago will have as a running mate the three-year-old colt, Command Post, who has started twice. Also coupled as an entry are Doug Davis Admirals Wave and V. P. McMahons Rico Rancho, both winners. Others among the 11 named for this. Lincoln Fields feature include: Mrs. F. E. Browns Sun Chuck, Jacob Shers Issybee, P. J. McMullens Top Twig, S. A. Alexanders Sids Pride, H. H. Mundys Pochard, and Marv-Arnie Stables Amaf ox.
