| - . BERNARD BARUCH— The Elder Statesman plans to attend the races at the two-day United Hunts meeting opening today at the Belmont Park course. UnitedHunts Two-Day Meet Opens at Belmont Hyyania Takes Up Top Weight in New York Turf Writers Handicap BELMONT PARK, Elmont, L. I., N. Y., June 17.— The United Hunts Racing Association opens its* annual two-day meeting at Belmont Park tomorrow with one, of the most attractive programs of jumping and flat races in its long history. The 0,000 New York Turf Writers Handicap at about a mile and three-quarters on the hurdle course is tjhe nominal feature and will be the sixth event. This is preceded by the ,500 Turf and Field Handicap, a classified test at one mile, which will be the fifth race, and the ,500 Cherry Malotte Handicap, a steeplechase at about two miles that will be the third race. The other five races are all on the flat. - Mrs. G. H. Bostwicks Hyvania is the topweight and probable favorite in the Turf Writers Cap with 160 pounds. The Hypnotist IT. gelding scored an easy victory for his first outing here this year, then finished second to L. H. Nelles much-improved Extra Points at tomorrows distance. Extra Points will probably be the favorite in the Cherry Malotte tomorrow, coupled with Mrs. C. E. Adams Errolford, winner of his last two starts. • Although beaten by Extra Points, Hyvania finished in. front of several of the Turf Writers candidates in his last out. Mill River Stables Eternal Son, 135, was two lengths away in third place; Allison Sterns Salemaker, 139, was .fifth, and Lazy F Ranchs Coveted, 132, was a distant ninth. Two others in tomorrows field finished just as far in front of Eternal Son in an earlier race as Hyvania was able to do. [Quartet Stables External Relations, 141, | and C. Mahlon Klines Brechin, 140, finished heads apart at about a mile and a half on June 2, with Eternal Son two lengths behind. The Turf Writers field is completed by Montpeliers Pintor, 146, and Mrs. Esther duPont Weirs Golden Furlong, 144. Pintor gave Brechin a pound and beat him a length on May 25, but the runner-up was probably best in that race, having to take up sharply when a horse fell in front of him. Golden Furlong raced well last year, but showed nothing in his only start this year over the steeplechase course.. No rider has been named for Hyvania, but Ramon Harris has been in the saddle in his two starts this year. However, Frank ."Dooley" Adams is available. Adams has been listed overnight for both Extra Points and Errolford, who are trained by his mother, in the Cherry Malotte. Hunting Fox, Phiblant, Spike Seven, Sun Shower and Patrol appear the chief rivals to the entry.
