New Jersey Notes MONMOUTH PARK, Oceanport, N. J., June 17. Three outriders provide ample protection to horses and riders at this meeting. The capable horsemen are Tom Smith, Ray Folk and Jack Davis. Jockey Nick Jemas, veteran free-lancer who is on hand for this session, recalls that he rode the first winner over the modern Monmouth course when the track was opened in 1946. He was astride a horse named Blind Path to capture the first race run at Monmouth since 1893. Racing secretary John Turner, Jr., is distributing Atlantic City stakes books to interested horsemen. Five claims were made out of the last two races on Saturday, as the services of horses remain in considerable demand. Bases Loaded was claimed for ,500 and Little Herman for ,000, both by the Treplow Stable, while Anita Heard took Maraud for ,500, Mrs. J. W. Camac acquired Book Match for ,000, and the Beacon Stable claimed Letdown for a similar sum. Among late arrivals at Monmou.th Park for the current season is Charles Gribbin, former trainer of the Glen Riddle Farm stable, who has nine head available for the coming 50 days. Danny Shea, Maryland horseman, has shipped seven head to Monmouth Park and plans to increase that string steadily as the meeting progresses. He trains for a number of owners, and the outfit is especially strong in two-year-olds. Everitt W. King was a late arrival here with a large public stable of 18 head. The string was transferred from Delaware Park. Trainer Tom J. Barry reports that Joey Boy, who finished fifth in iast Wednesdays running of the Massachusetts Handicap at Suffolk Downs, came out of that engagement in good condition and has been returned to his stablemates here.
