Sir Sir Mango Mango Displays Displays Excellent Excellent Speed; Speed; Guerin Guerin Wont Wont Ride RideDancer Dancer in in Derby Derby Suspended 10 Days By Stewards at Spa Ruling Becomes Effective Today; Report Arcaro May Be Offered Mount Saturday By BOB HORWOOD Staff Correspondent SARATOGA, Saratoga Springs, N. Y., Aug. 17. For the first time in his career, Alfred G. Vanderbilts Native Dancer will be guided by someone other than Eric Guerin when he makes his nineteenth start in the American Derby at Washington Park next Saturday. The champions regular pilot, Eric Guerin, was suspended today for 10 racing days, effective tomorrow for his ride on Llangollen Farms Porterhouse in the Saratoga Special Saturday. Porterhouse was disqualified after winning that race for bearing out in the stretch and interfering with Cain Hoy Stables Turn-to, who was awarded the victory. View Films of Race The patrol films of the Saratoga Special showed that Turn-to started the bumping by coming in after Porterhouse had moved up on the inside at the head of the stretch. When Turn-to hit Porterhouse on the hip, it caused that colt to bear out, a fact pointed out by steward Marshall Cassidy who showed the films to the press. However, Guerin appeared to make no attempt to keep Porterhouse from continuing to come out, and the two colts hit solidly again near the sixteenth pole. The films also show that Guerins whip hit Turn-to on the chest more than once as he swung his stick a trifle wide while-the two colts were close together. Anticipating Guerins suspension yesterday, Native Dancers trainer, Bill Winfrey, said, "I suppose we should alert Bones LaBoyne, but I dont suppose Bones needs any alerting." LaBoyne is Eddie Ar-caros agent and it is expected that Arcaro will ride the gray colt at Washington Park. , Continued on Page Fifty Suspension to Prevent Guerin Riding Dancer on Saturday ! Continued from Page One However, it is understood the veteran is contractually committed to ride Spring Hill Farms Jamie K. It was learned that before the jockeys were shown the films, Guerin told Cassidy: "I didnt realize my horse went out so much. I am almost positive I didnt hit the horse Turn-to with my whip. I was shaking it at my horses head and if I hit Turn-to it was by accident and not more than once." Also before seeing the films, Henry Moreno, Turn-to s rider, said: "I let Guerins horse go to the front because my horse was green, but was well in hand and I knew he would come on again." After seeing the movies, Cassidy said that Guerin declared: "My horse did come out a bit and his hip hit the others shoulder and swung him. The second time, he did cross him. Maybe I hit him with the whip inside the eighth pole, but not later." Cassidy told the riders that Turn-to went in before Porterhouse came out, which was evident from .the films. After showing the jockeys the films, Cassidy asked Guerin why he allowed his mount to take four strides before making any effort to straighten out. The steward said that Guerin told him: "We were right at the finish drive-and it happened too quickly. I had no time to change." The suspension continues in effect through August 28.
