2,500 at Rockingham Party To Aid Crippled Children ROCKINGHAM PARK, Salem, N. H., Aug. 17. Utza Smiths annual party for her Crippled Childrens Non-Sectarian Fund held at the track yesterday proved to be the biggest since the affair became a highlight of the Rockingham meeting. A crowd of 2,500 attended the party, which was sparked by a short address by Archbishop Richard Cushing. Following luncheon held in the grandstand at noon, a three-hour variety show was presented, starting with Norman Brooks, who led the revue because he had to leave for Toronto, where he opens an I engagement. From then until 5:00, act after act, dancing, singing, comedy, rolled across the stage, interrupted only for the Archbishops address and a word of thanks from Mrs. Smith. An innovation in the program this year was the presence of some 50 or so crippled children, who were transported by bus from the Joseph P. Kennedy Memorial Home, one of the recipients of the non-sectarian fund, for the show. The big thrill for these kids was being allowed rides on Shetland and stable ponies.
