Mundy Dispersal Sale Is Set for October 19 Will Auction Some 60 Head at, TartersaHs in Lexington, Ky. By HUGH J. McGUIRE Staff Correspondent SARATOGA, Saratoga Springs, N. Y., Aug. 17. Following the completion of the yearling sales here, H. H. "Doc" Mundy announced that he would dispose of most of his thoroughbred holdings by auction. The sale is to be conducted by the Fasig-Tipton Company and will be held at Tattersalls in Lexington, Ky., beginning at 1 p.m. on October 19, the dark Monday of Keeneland racing. It was believed that Mundys retirement might be of a temporary nature and was prompted by the expiration of his lease of the LeMar Stock Farm on November 1. Mundy is a former cattleman from Pahuska, Okla., where he gained international fame as a breeder of prize cattle. The belief that Mundy may re-enter the breeding ranks is prompted by the fact that he will retain his stallion Bobs Pick and some yearlings by him with whom he is experimenting. Otherwise thesale is a complete dispersal of considerable magnitude and will include horses-in-training, broodmares and weanlings totalling some 60 head. From the racing stable will come 28 head including some very promising two-year-olds that have been brought along gradually. The broodmare band to be sold numbers 23, all but five of whom are in foal. These mares should be in keen demand as they are by such stallions as Blue Larkspur, Count Fleet, Menow, Polynesian and War Admiral and are in foal to Polynesian, Nirgal, Fighting Fox, Rippey, Big Dipper and- other popular sires. Nine weanlings to be offer d are by Polynesian, Princequillo, Nirgal, Bobs Pick and Con- " test. It was obvious by the high prices obtained for yearlings at both Saratoga and Keeneland that there was a strong market for more racing stock and the Mundy dispersal is certain to be well-accepted. Humphrey Finney, general manager of the Fasig-Tipton Company reported that his company had already sold 950 yearlings this year for approximately ,500,000 which is an amount far in excess of any previous year at this time. Finney stated further that with the Mundy dispersal, Canadian sales, Meadow Brook and others yet to b? staged, that he was confident that the companys sales total would reach ,000,000 this year.
