Uptrend Continues At Charles Town Daily Average Attendance Is 4,547 at 38-Day Meet While Average Handle Is 77,973 Keeping pace with most of Americas race meetings this season, Charles Towns attendance and pari-mutuel handle showed sizable gains over the corresponding 1952 session. The three-quarter mile oval in the West Virginia city bearing its name concluded its 38-day meeting, inclusive of a six-day session sponsored by the Charles Town Horse Show Association, last Saturday. Attendance this year soared to 172,801 for a daily average of 4,547, compared to respective 136,847 and 3,601 totals for the 38 days comprising the 1952 meeting. This seasons over-all mutuel play skyrocketed to 0,562,977 for a daily mean of 77,973. In 1952 wagering totaled ,965,130, the daily average being 62,240. Leading money winner among the thoroughbreds was No Lien, who earned ,250 with five victories and a show award. Skin Junior, who captured three events, was second once and third twice, earned ,450 for runner-up honors. D. G. Neuman Leads Owners D. G. Neumans charges were successful in getting home first on eight occasions, grabbed the secondary portions of purses seven times and showed five times to earn ,475, tops among the owners in cash collecting. C. M. Davis, Jr., took No. 2 laurels in money earned with ,325. Mrs. G. A. Saportas, Jr., who captured the training "title" at Wheeling Downs this spring, showed the way among the conditioners with 12 saddle successes, four more than her nearest competitor, G. .G. Waugh, Jr., was able to compile. In the jockeys race, it was Fred Kratz who landed on top with 34 triumphs in 174 mounts. Kratz, who sported the best percentage .20 nudged M. Sorrentino by a scant success, Sorrentinos 33 winners being achieved in 219 attempts. There were 120 winning favorites in the 304 races run for an average of .39.
