Jhree-Year-Old Straight Face Is Returned to Training SARATOGA, Saratoga Springs, N. Y., Aug. 17. Trainer John Gaver reports that Greentree Stables three-year-old gelding. Straight Face, has been returned to training, following the application of firing irons to his knees in May. The Flamingo Stakes winner, who suffered multiple injuries in the Everglades Stakes before that engagement, has been on the sidelines since the Kentucky Derby in which he tired badly. Gaver said that he is going along slowly with the son of Count Fleet and that he will not be returned to the races during the fall. Whether or not he will go to Hialeah for a winter campaign depends upon his progress in the next couple of months. Gaver also reported that the coughing had now reached every one of the two-year-olds in the stable, which had started out the current Spa meeting by winning everything in sight. Card Trick, the Flash winner, awaited the day of the United States Hotel Stakes to run a fever, while Diving Board, impressive winner of an overnight dash, waited until the day of the Saratoga Special to run7 his temperature. The handicap champion, Tom Fool, and the "giant killer" One Hitter, have thus far escaped the malady.
