, Gray Champion Due to Arrive At Washington Course Today Dance in Fine Trim After i Easy T ravers Win; May Have Nine American Derby Rivals WASHINGTON PARK, Homewood, HI., Aug. 17. Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilts great gray champion, Native Dancer, is scheduled to arrive at Washington Park some time around the noon hour tomorrow. The big three-year-old sensation was loaded into a special car today at Saratoga Springs, New York, and after it was hitched to the back of an express train, the entourage headed for Chicago. Upon arrival in Chicago, Native Dancer will be transferred to a motor van and Will proceed to Washington Park, where he will put the finishing touches on his training for Saturdays renewal of the famed 00,000 added American Derby. The Derby, booked at a mile and one-eighth, is expected to lure a field of 10, with the possibility that three doubt-fuls will answer the call. Likely Starters for Race Those regarded as starters, in addition to Native Dancer, are James Cox Bradys Landlocked, Mr. and Mrs. T. M. Daniels Ace Destroyer, Dixianas Devilment, Dun-treath Farms Van Crosby, Harry N. Eads Sir Mango, Hasty House Farms Platan, C. C. Ortleibs Dr. Heitz, Spring Hill Farms Jamie K., and Beachcomber, a stable companion of Native Dancer in the Vanderbilt barn. The question marks for the Derby are Bruce S. Campbells Ram o War, Harvey C. Fruehaufs Precious Stone, and Hasty House Farms Stan. Of these, Stan appears to be the most formidable. The English-bred, gelding, who Continued on Page Fifty Native Dancer Due to Arrive On American Derby SceneToday Continued- from Page One was obtained recently by Mr. and Mrs. Allie E. Reuben, of the Hasty House Farm, showed his most impressive race in this country on Saturdaywhen he won the 5,-000 added Grassland Handicap. After the race, Reuben stated that he will continue to run the star on grass for the remainder of the year, but it is understood that Reuben and trainer Harry Trot-sek are weighing the idea of running him in the Derby. Native Dancer is reported to have come out of his engagement Saturday in the Travers in fine style. In accounting for the seventeenth victory of his 18-race career, the colt merely "laughed" at his opposition. He was allowed to lag along while holding a contending position during the early part of the mile and one-quarter test. Once given his head in the stretch, he bounded away with an electrifying burst of speed that annihilated his opponents. It was little more than a workout for the impressive three-year-old champion, one that should have done him a world of good for the i Derby on Saturday.
