Africance Wins at Rockingham; DeSpirito Rides Four Winners ROCKINGHAM PARK, Salem, N. H., Aug. 17. Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Grants Africance, a stakes-minded filly who had poor racing luck in a blue-ribboned event at Monmouth Park and last week also suffered poor fortune at Saratoga, received a well-judged ride today from the veteran Armando Martinez as she came from off a blistering pace and won the Milford Purse. The daughter of Ajax Blackie H. completed the six panels in 1:10 to register by a neck over C. H. Bocks Twig Lee, with W. L. Curies Mintaway third, another three parts of a length back. The attendance of 10,791 for the washday card beginning the final week of the Rockingham Park meeting was large, and the followers of Tony DeSpirito had the innings in the first three races. Tony personally accounted for a 7.40 Daily Double pay-off when he scored with Irish Prince in the opener and came back to take the second aboard Sans Faute. He made it three straight with Wrights Wrong in the third. In the feature, DeSpirito was the incentive for installing Jake Lingles Valenciano as an 8-5 choice, but the Secnav three-year-old was not up to the task and wound up fifth in the field of nine. DeSpirito made it four winners for the day astride E. Awi in the nightcap.
