Hazel Park is Running Ahead of Record 1952 Average Attendance of 14,372 And Handle of 51,420 to Date HAZEL PARK, Mich., Aug. 17. Hazel Park today marked the fifth anniversary of its opening in 1949 with officials predicting that this year will be. the greatest in the tracks brief history. Attendance and mutuel handle for the first nine days of the current meeting showed substantial increases over last year when Hazel Park broke all records. Average attendance to date stands at 14,372 as compared with 13,881 for a similar period last year, while the mutuel handle average is 51,420 as compared to 54,407 for the first nine days in 1952.
