Tuscany Wins in Gallop at Odds On Leads Main Bout By Five Lengths Success at Atlantic City Is Third Tally in Row for Fast Homebred of Mrs. S. Pistorio By PALMER HEAGERTY Staff Correspondent ATLANTIC CITY, Mays Landing, N. J., Aug. 17. Mrs. Samuel M. Pistorios Tuscany, winner of the Sal va tor Mile and the Rumson Handicap in his last two engagements, descended into allowance company for his appearance in this afternoons featured Estell Manor Purse and was a galloping five-length winner. Jaclyn Stables Main Bout was second, two lengths before John L. McKnights Thasian Hero, who nosed out Trio Stables Do Report. Completing the field were Raritan Stables Bakersfield and S. R. Frys Hi Billee, neither of whom seemed capable of handling the sloppy going. Despite the condition of the racing surface, Tuscany was just one second off the track record while being timed in 1:24 for the seven furlongs. A punctual .40 favorite with the crowd of 18,144, the five-year-old son of The Rhymer Roman Matron completed a saddle double for Jimmy Stout, who made up the major portion of the 124-pound burden carried by the winner. Fifth Score of -Year Tuscany, who is a half-brother to Princess Lygia and equally proficient in the opinion of many, was scoring his fifth victory of the year, having taken the Rowe Memorial and Toboggan Handicaps in addition to those fixtures named in the opening paragraph. He now has earned 7,950 this season and may endeavor to augment that figure in Saturdays 5,000 added Boardwalk Handicap,-a one mile turf event for which he has been assigned top weight of 126 pounds Displaying smart speed from the barrier, as is his custom, Tuscany shook off Do Report to attain a clear advantage soon after the opening furlong. He was not challenged thereafter and was merely coasting while increasing his lead to five lengths at the wire. Main Bout, lone three-year-old in the field, tried in vain to reach the leader, but his efforts proved little more than persistent and enabled him to hold the others safe. Thasian Hero, a stakes winner since being claimed earlier in the year for 0,000 turned in his usual honest effort to narrowly beat Do Report,- a nine-time winner this year after also having been acquired via the halter route. Bakersfield and Hi Billee were completely outdistanced in the Estell Manor, but should not be condemned. Bakersfield was slipping and sliding throughout, while Hi Billee displayed smart speed and quit, as many non-mudders will do on such a track. The 10-year-old Flying Weather, racing for Leon and William Santore, won the thirty-fourth race of his busy career when he took honors as a .40 chance in the seven-furlong opener. The Happy Argo Port Weather gelding was a galloping winnef under Jimmy Stout while being timed in 1:27. The Daily Double returned 0.60 when Mrs. W. B. Dietrichs Quick Imp won the second race as a .60 favorite under Nick Shuk. There also was a consolation return of 1.20 on J. A. Humbles Cadence Count, who was a late withdrawal after having injured himself at the starting point. All other wagers on the colt were refunded.
