Nickies Boy Returns to Best ! Form in Sportsmans Sprint Idle Platter Second, Neck Off W. Strong Campaigner; Moondog in Surprise Score By J. J. MURPHY SPORTSMANS PARK, Cicero, 111.. May 5. — Nickies Boy, Wallace Strongs five-year-old gelding, won his first purse in seven starts this year when he finished in front of a band of capable runners in the seven -furlong La Grange Purse here this afternoon. Making u strong move around the stretch turn. Nickies Boy, with Bennie Green doing the riding, collared the pacemakers a sixteenth out and registered by a neck from Valley View Farms Idle Platter, with Cross Ring edging out Nymphs Pride for third place. A field of 10 met in the La Grange, and Heredity was the favorite, with Heutel, the second choice. Neither threatened seriously at any stage of the trip. Cross Ring and Nymphs Pride alternated in making the early pace and were heads and noses apart for the first six furlongs. Nickies Boy overpowered them after entering the stretch, and Idle Platter, who had been in eighth place early, came strongly near the finish. Nickies Boy paid 3.60 and ran the seven furlongs in l:284i. A stiff wind blowing across the course tempered the rays of a hot sun and the attendance was 10,791. Climbs in Claiming Company Moondog, owned by John Beck, moved up in claiming company to take the fifth race in which a small but good field went postward. Beaten in his last start for a ,000 price, Moondog ran for ,500 today and trimmed Close Out in a drive, with Bill Pac third and the favored Happy Queen fourth. William Cox rode Moondog. who paid 7.60. The Gelding was claimed at Gulfstream Park for ,500. Ten-year-old Hypostle, from Mikel Farm, proved too good for a rather ordinary band in the opener, and with apprentice John Carroll doing the riding, bested Specific by a fail- margin. Hypostyle was the public choice. The Daily Double paid 9.00 when Flo D., with apprentice William Wash up. was good enough to take tile second, with the favored Brown Smoke unplaced. The third race went to Fast Motion, representing Olen Sledge. The race was between the winner and Tiger Trip most of the way. and Fast Motion, piloted by Richard Lawless, was all out to score. Hoopdedont, an outsider with John Wagner up, took the fourth by staging a good stretch run.
