Fairmount Riding Colony Big This Year as Usual Over 50 Jockeys, Including Five Apprentices, Registered So Far FAIRMOUNT PARK, Collins ville. 111.. May 5. — There never has been an absence of riding talent during the many years this track has operated and the coming meeting will be no exception, according to the number of riders already checking their tack with Eddie Griffin, custodian of the jockey room. Registered with Griffin, but, not all licensed, are more than 50 sad-dlesmiths, including the smallest number of apprentices in years. Only five novices are listed so far and they include Clarence Meaux, who won the first race of his riding career here last summer and went over to nearby Cahokia Downs to top the riders with 80 successes. Meaux was forced out of the saddle the latter part of the Cahokia Downs meeting because of a broken shoulder encountered in a riding accident. Other apprentices scheduled to ride during the meeting are E. Duran. J. Guidry. C. H. James and E. Wallace. Among the older riders are R. Alonso. J. Banres, W. Brinson, R. Brinkley, J. Cas-sity, B. Clark, C. Collins, C. Daigiepont, D. Dew, M. Duhon, J. Duff, J. Delahous-saye, J. Dyer, P. Domenico, C. Elder, T. Fico, L. Grandsart, L. Gammon, K- Griffith, B. Gummow, G. Hatcher, W. E. Jones. N. Koonce, T. Littrell, J. Marrero, G. E. Martin, T. Murphy, J. Mayher. J. Rector. R. Sanabria, W. L. Stevens. R. Young, E. OKeefe, W. Hall, B. Collins, R. Delpidio, S. Chiapetta and J. Tam-maro. The latter, who made the headlines several weeks ago when he reduced from 200 pounds down to little more than 120 in handling a winner at Ascot Park, Akron. Ohio., is reported to be doing 118 pounds. Tammaro last rode at Fort Miami Fairgrounds, Maumee, Ohio.
