Trout Fly Six Lengths Winner in Ascot Route Comes From Behind to Overtake Leaders and Score Going Away By J. R. BATTY | Staff Correspondent ASCOT PARK, Cuyahoga, Falls, Ohio, May 5. — Trout Fly, performing under the orange and green silks of the partnership owners of A. and J. Philip, turned in a very impressive triumph when accounting for the fourth race here today. Going one and one sixteenth miles in this route test, one of the better races carded, Trout Fly came from next to last position going by the stands the first time to overhaul the leaders leaving the backstretch and rapidly drew away, winning by a half dozen length over Mrs. A. Roberts Speedy Harp. Third among the limit field of ten starters was Lady Herod, owned by tree top farm. With Jockey Alfred Tryon doing the booting, Trout Fly negotiated the distance over a fast track in 1 :49% and her backers among the estimated crowd of 4,500 collected 5.00. Trout Fly, who suffered a fall at Tropical Park in Florida last season, was dropping down in company with this band comparing to those who humbled her in her debut at the meeting. A couple of four to one hazards figured in the Daily Double combination. War Vessels won the first race and Belf aster captured the following dash. They compiled a Daily Double payoff of 1.00._ Three-year-olds exclusively comprise the field in the principal race drafted for presentation here tomorrow. With eight races posted the best contest is the seventh in which seven sophomores are named to meet at six and a half furlongs. Vying for portions of a ,600 purse will be Bonhaven Star, Miss Minstrel, Veronikas, Fond Dream, Brown Cheer, Mestee, and Bow Divider. With the exception .of Mestee, each member of the group has made an appearance under silks at the current meeting. Mestee arrived here recently from Fort Miami and will have to improve over the local strip to make his presence felt. Earlier this year he was third on three occasions at Charles Town but has been unsuccessful in eight outings thus far in 1955. Miss Minstrel was a winning favorite last Friday going four and a lialf furlongs with about the same brand of speedsters. She must be accorded a chance to make it two in a row. Bow Divider finished fourth to her a week ago. Brown Cheer has turned in several good efforts locally and promises to be among the better supported contestants.
