Pat Taaffe of Ireland To Ride in International Guided Winners of English and Irish Grand Nationals This Year BELMONT PARK, Elmont, L. I., May 5. — Belmont Parks International Steeplechase draws closer to reality with the arrival over the week end ot some vof the foreign performers. Pat Taaffe, the Irish jockey who scored a double this year by riding the winner of the English and Irish Grand National, is to arrive with his bride at Idiewild Sunday morning. Reservations have been made for him at the Garden City Hotel and he will be ready, to start taking up work with Beechpark, the Irish entry, when he arrives from Ireland. On Monday the French and Italian horses arrive by chartered flight arranged by the John J. McCabe Travel Agency at Idiewild and will be vanned direct to Belmont Park to begin training for the race. The French ace is Projectile, a five-year-old bay owned by Prince Said Toussoun. Projectile will be accompanied by his jockey, Michel Quenet, a 25-year-old Parisian who has won over 100 races on the flat and 60 winners over the jumps in his native France. The Italian horse is Machiavel, a five-year-old bay horse owned by Signor Ettore ! Tagliabue, who is coming later to see thej race. Trainer Vinceno Corbella, jockey! Armando Carargio and groom Franco Ma-razzoni will accompany Machiavel. Headquarters for all of the foreign groups will be at the Garden City Hotel. At present, plans call for the Irish and English horses to leave on another chartered flight on May 12, landing on Long Island on the 13th. This gives each of the entrants at least one full week training on the grounds for the race on May 21.
