1 Salute Returns to Action In Garden State Dash Today GARDEN STATE PARK, Camden, N. J., May 5. — I Salute, the turf sprinting champion of Harry Isaacs Brookfield farm, is slated to make her initial appearance of the season here Friday in the featured six-furlong Manoa Purse that brings together a formidable band of nine other sprinters of allowance and handicap dimensions. Those who will draw the most support from the public will be the Brook-field miss, Sylvester Richs Helianthus, R. C. Hannas Candle Wood and Darby Dan Farms Skipper Bill. I Salute wintered in Columbia, S. C, and was later shipped in for a brief stay in Maryland before the Brookfield contingent was brought here. Trainer Eddie I. Kelly has had her go through her paces over the Garden State strip just once, but she displayed speed and freshness, breezing a half-mile last Tuesday in :48Vs. The five-year-old homebred daughter of Brookfield and I Declare is at her very best racing over the turf and she currently holds the American record of 1:03% for five and one-half furlongs over the grass which she established last October at Atlantic City. Uniquely, she bettered her own American record* of 1:04 that she ran at Atlantic City in August of 1953 as a sophomore, and equalled a month later with a higher weight. Last year she started nine times and won four races. She will be ridden tomorrow by Willie Hartack.
