. = , 1 Sun David Whips Black Main In Nose Finish at Churchill J. S. Bradley Homebred Gets Up in Closing Strides for Victory; Sidara Graduates By DON FAIR n Staff Correspondent CHURCHILL DOWNS, Louisville, Ky., May 5. — J. S. Bradleys Sun David, aged but game Equifox-sired gelding, responded to a strong ride from Arnold Kirkland here this sunny afternoon and captured the Brown Hotel Purse before a crov/d of more than 12,000 spectators. Overcoming mild interference after entering the stretch, Sun David was up in the last strides to trim Warner L. Jones. Jrs, Black Main by a head margin. Mrs. Elizabeth Brisbanes Golly turned in a sharp effort to save third a length off the lapped leaders and slightly more than a length on Mrs. John L. Ogles-bys In Clover. Eleven better class sprinters met in the six furlongs feature and Mrs. J. H. Woodcocks Epic King, favorite in the field, wound up a close fifth. Sun David, third in his prior outing at Keeneland, carried 113 pounds over the fast track in 1:12%. He was second choice to Epic King in the tote at 18 to 5. Calumets Sidara Scores Calumet Farms Sidara, a Jiomebred daughter of Bull Lea and Miss Rushin, romped to an easy graduation decision in the six furlongs Bennihgs Park Purse. Responding with a fjine burst of speed when shaken up in the stretch by jockey Willie Shoemaker, the Calumet miss quickly disposed of Yunker and Tylers early pacemaker, Super Bilt, and drew out to a two and one-half lengths accounting. Buddah Stables Goldnose gave a fair effort to garner the show another two lengths away, while Hasty House Farms well-regarded Shaitani could do no better than fourth in the field of seven three-year-old starters. Sidara raced the three-quarters mile of the Bennings Park in 1:12%. She was the betting choice at 7 to 10. Thomas D. Nolans Gay Dictation, ridden by Johnny Ralph Adams, beat six other two-year-olds in the four and one-half furlongs fourth and paid 1.80 straight. Last at the stretch turn, Gay Dictation unleashed a powerful drive ample to run down the leaders and graduate by slightly more than a length. Caddiss F. Morriss Hal Marbut ran second and his margin over Leo J. Caillou-ettes Joes Best at the wire was but a neck. Larry H. Thompsons Columbus Bound, handled by Johnny Heckmann, beat 10 ordinary platers in the six furlongs opener and Buddah Stables Locks, with Lois Cook at the reins, trimmed a capacity, band of sprinters in the three-quarters mile second. Columbus Bound, 3.20 straight, and Locks, a 33 to 5 shot, paid 76.60 in the Daily Double pool. Jockey Heckmann won the six furlongs third astride Dennis J, Gleesons Louisville-owned Chombro, who returned a 1.60 mutuel after downing seven useful sprinters.
