► ■ j Alberta Ranches to Race St. Vincent at Balmoral Gross Course Ace May Start in 0,000 Turf Handicap June 11 Trainer Vance Longden and the Alberta Ranches Ltd. thorughbreds, including the stable ace St. Vincent, are scheduled to arrive from Maryland about June 1 for the last half of Balmorals inaugural meeting at Washington Park. Balmoral, formerly Lincoln Fields, sets off its 30-day season May 16. Lured by Chicagos rich turf events, 25-year-old Vance, son of famed rider, Johnny Longden, plans to start the English-bred. St. Vincent in the 0,000 added Balmoral Turf Handicap June 11. St. Vincent swept grass honors this winter at Santa Anita, winning three important grass features, including the 00,000 San Juan Capistrano Handicap. The four-year-old Ocean Swell — Light of Day offspring may meet Stan, 1954 grass champion, Brush Burn, Colcbarador, Salmon Peter, and other top-level grass runners in the Balmoral grass headliner. Longden has won a name for himself as trainer and part-owner of his six-horse stable, having conditioned such fine performers as Royal Serenade, Indian Hemp, Sun God III, and now St. Vincent. This year Vance also will saddle In Reserve, a strong representative in the three -year-old filly division. The bay daughter of Noor — Abeyance scored in the Santa Ynez Stakes early this year. Heavy arrivals at Washington Park the past three days have augmented the equine j population well over the 175 mark. Already ! bedded down is the nine -horse contingent of Harold G. Bockman from Keeneland, headed by two reliable stakes performers, Happy Go Lucky and Mr. President. The latter is a candidate for the 00,000 American Derby at Washington Park. Art. Warner unloaded a 15-horse public stable after shipment from Florida, including medium-class runners, Loridale and Roman Spy.
