Endurance Endurance Handicap Handicap to to Streaking; Streaking; On On the the Bit Bit Driving Driving Churchill Churchill Victress Victress Shaffer Homebred Has Dave Erb Up Daughter of Olympia Passes Wire Clear of Brujaria and Wing-Two in Distaff Sprint By DON FAIR CHURCHILL DOWNS, Louisville, Ky., May 9. — On the Bit, a homebred daughter of Olympia and Edgey, carried Mrs. E. E. Dale Shaffers scarlet and white silks to a driving victory here this pleasant afternoon in the Kings Daughter Purse. On the Bit, smartly handled by Dave Erb, who won the Kentucky Derby astride Needles last Saturday, reached the finish of the six furlongs with a length and one-half to spare over her nearest rival, Ernest H. Lanes Texas-owned Brujaria. Buddah Stables Wing-Two picked up the third award a length away and a head in advance of Sam E. Wilson Jr.s Lady Swords, fourth in the field of 10 three-year-old fillies entered in the mid-week feature. 9,000 on Hand On the Bit, a good class winner of three outings last year, shouldered 116 pounds and raced the three-quarter mile of the Kings Daughter over the fast track in 1:11%. The crowd of more than 9,000 on hand for the sport installed the Shaffer miss second choice to Peter A. B. Wideners Ament at 3 to 1. Thomas Devereuxs Queen Margie had the most speed during the run to the stretch closely attended by Wing-Two. On the Bit raced evenly back of the top pair and always within striking distance, while Brujaria, who was to figure prominently during the late stages, was no better than i sixth turning for home. Brujaria bore out badly through the last sixteenth, but she did have enough left to beat out the faltering Wing-Two. Fruehaufs Windtrace, an Irish-bred Windsor Slipper-sired colt, handled by William McKinley Cook, was the popular winner in the six-furlong Donerail Purse which brought together seven quick three-year-olds. Windtrace, well placed from the start of the sprint, took command after entering the stretch and, responding to brisk urging, drew out to a two and three-quarter length verdici over Baylor O. Hickmans Royal Jester, pacemaker for the major part of the trip. Hasty House Farms Roman Boss saved-third money, a half length before Henry i Forrests Judge RayK., who flattered with a nice display of early speed before fading, back in the drive.
