Rockie Comes Through As Choice at Lincoln Hits Finish Line Length Ahead Of Johns Pal in Top Offering By FRED GALIANI LINCOLN DOWNS, Lincoln, R. I., May 9.— Performing as an even money favorite with the crowd of 9,807, P. and M. Stables Rockie came from far out of it to win the featured Wickford Purse on a sunny but very blustery afternoon. Under jockey Larry Adams, Rockie triumphed by a~ length over H. Silvermans Johns Pal. J. J. Nashs Special Choice finished along the inside to be third. Bucking a strong crosswind, Rockie covered the seven furlongs over the fast track in 1:28% and paid .20 for his first victory of the year. The Wickford was an .optional caliming race for horses of the ,000 variety and none of the six entrants were eligible to be haltered. Rockie had been out four times previously this year with a second and third to his credit. The Hierocles colt was well back in the early running, leaving the pace-making chores up to Kind Moud and Babcha. Band Moud tried to make a runaway race of it leading by three, lengths down the back side with Babcha an equal distance before Fleet Chief. Special Choice came next,- with Rockie and Johns Pal bringing up the rear. Midway of thevturn, Kind Moud started to shorten stride, allowing Babcha to draw closer, but Rockie had been set down for the drive. By the time they reached the head of the stretch Kind Mouds lead had dwindled to a, head and above the sixteenth pole Rockie had taken command. He finished in the center of the track and Was drawing away steadily. Both Kind Moud and Babcha tired and were passed by Johns Pal and Special Choice, neither of whom was able to threaten the leaders. Joe Spinale came up with two winning rides to garner both ends of a 3 Daily Double. Spinale started off the day with Royal Sky Jeep, good for .60 in the tote.
