Dedication of Addition To Childrens Hospital SantaAnita Foundation Laboratory Ceremony Will Be Held on May 31 LOS ANGELES, Calif., May 9*. — The Santa Anita Foundation- Laboratory and Lecture Hall Building will be dedicated at a- public ceremony on Thursday, May 31, according to plans announced last, night by the Childrens Hospital, Society of Los Angeles. The just completed, addition to the Childrens Hospital ori""Sunset Boulevard, just east of Vermont Ave., represents a gift of almost a million dollars raised from the annual days for charity conducted at Santa Anita Paxk. The; check for 47,955 was presented to the Childrens Hospital Society in September, 1954, by P. G. Winnett, president of the non-profit Santa Anita foundation, which distributes "the charity funds. The gift is among the largest of its type from thoroughbred racing. The new .three-story and basement building, carrying an identification sign, "Santa Anita Foundation Laboratory," and the adjoining lecture hall, seating almost 300 people, will provide facilities to make it one of the finest pediatric research centers in the world; Since Santa Anita Park was built and opened in 1934 to revive thoroughbred rac- ing in Southern California after a lapse of 25 years, approximately ,000,000 has been raised for charity _and civic welfare. The sum includes contributions from Los Angeles Turf Club, Inc., from its own funds, besides the yearly charity days. Los Angeles Turf Club makes nonprofit, directly or indirectly, from these charity days.
