Y., May 9.— Making the dead track appear truly last, Mrs. Ethel D. Jacobs Searching ran down the speed horses in todays 17th running of the 2,550 Correction Handicap, reaching the end of six furlongs in 1:11%, three-quarters of a: length before Brookmeade Stables Gandharva. Meyer J. Kaplans Up Betimes finished fast to be third, a length back of Gandharva and a neck before Reginald N. Websters Sorceress. Maine Chance Farms Myrtles Jet, who had beaten Searching and Gandharva in her last start at Garden State Park, finished a weary fifth, a length and a half off the board, while the former star, Wheatley Stables High Voltage, finished last in the field of eight, seeming unwilling to extend herself, Returns 7.10 Mutuel Conn McCreary put up one of his better rides on Searching, who was neglected by the majority in the shivering throng of 21,547, paying 7.10. Sorceress was first out of the gate from her inside stall at the start of the Correc-jtion but was quickly passed by Myrtles Jet, Gandharva, Tarquilla and Searching and was shuffled back a bit nearing the far turn. High Voltage was last away from the gate, moved past Up Betimes and Rare Treat on the outside in the run to the far turn, then evidently decided she liked it better at the wrong end of the field and dropped back rapidly. " , Meanwhile, Myrtles Jet and Gandharva, as expected, fought for the lead, with the Maine Chance filly a head in the van as they sped around the far turn and past the three-furlong pole a length or more before Tarquilla, who was closely followed by Searching, while Up Betimes was not far away on the outside and Sorceress was still on the rail and beginning to come again. Myrtles Jet began to fade turning for home, leaving Gandharva alone on the lead, while Sorceress began to move up on the rail, where she had plenty of room, while McCreaiy found a wide opening between horses and shot Searching through. At the eighth »pole, Searching was lapped on Gandharva, who fought on gamely, but couldnt? hold the determined rush of the War Admiral four-year-old. Up Betimes closed with a belated rush on the outside to take third honors from Sorceress, who had every chance through the stretch, but lacked the power to move through on the inside. Searching was purchased from Ogden Phipps for 5,000 last June 1 and today" netted Mrs. Jacobs 5,300, plus a trophy presented by Mrs. Samuel A. Peck. A maiden at the time of her sale, Searching has now won 13 races and 9,525 and was disqualified from another-triumph in the Jacobs silks. While racing for her breeder. Searching earned ,800 in minor awards, though unable to win. Phoebe Unseats Woodhousc T. E. Gilmans Phoebe unseated Hedley Woodhouse in the post parade before the fourth race and ran past the stands and into the backstretch before outrider "Jimmy Daley caught her while she was looking for the gap to the receiving barrlT The Free. For All filly took part in the race, finishing third after forcing the pace. Johnny Neruds Floral Girl, a recent ,500 claim won the allowance dash by a length and-a half over John "Trader" Clarks Memo, who led Phoebe another five lengths. Bobby Ussery hustled the winning daughter of Noble Hero over the five furlongs in i:01 arid she paid 4.80. Another upset occurred in the fifth event, a six-furlong dash for maiden fillies and mares, which was won by King Ranchs Dotted Line, a daughter of Prince-quillo who was making her seasonal debut and was unplaced in her three starts last year. DaVe Gorman steered Dotted Line to the finish three . lengths before another outsider, Theodora A. Randolphs Alight, who had finished "absolutely" in her recent debut here. Mrs. John W. Galbreaths Jody Belle, the odds-on choice coupled with C. L. Heekins Bonnet, was a length farther back in third place. Dotted Line paid 3.80 and was clocked in 1:13%. Medilex Farms Very Ultra and Tree Stables Iamarelic returned the smallest Daily Double pay-off of the season, .30. Jimmy Combest rode Very Ultra, who paid a liberal straight after winning the opening six furlongs by two lengths over Charming Host, who took the final turn a bit wide. A heavy play on Pallestrelli, who finished far back, boosted the favorite price. Iamarelic had no trouble taking -the second sprint by three lengths over Cosmos, who finished willingly to take second money by a length over Kinda Rough. Iamarelic, who appeared more sound than in a long time, paid .40 and coasted the six panels in 1:13. Woolford Farms Enriched, a juvenile gelding by Lawrin, amazed the multitude by taking the third race under John Wir-chainski, who had ridden his only other winner on a major track some five years ago. Enriched returned 65.60, 2.10 and 0 across the board after outfinishing John C. Lawrences Hung Up, a "good tiling," by a half length. It was another half length back to A. J.
