WAR ADMIRAL DUE AT HAVRE Glen Kiddle Farms Derby Candidates Training Well Advanced. Son of Man o War Slay Face Barrier in Sprint Race Before Starting in Chesapeake. HAVRE DE GRACE, Md.. April 3. The Glen Riddle Farm string, including War Admiral and Over the Top, candidates for the 0,000 Chesapeake, is being vanned in here for the Harford Agricultural and Breeders fourteen-day meeting, beginning April 12. War Admiral, three-year-old brown son of the mighty Man o War and Brushup, not only is a candidate for the Chesapeake on April 24, but a nominee for the 0,000 Kentucky Derby on May 8 at Churchill Downs; therefore his every move here will be closely watched. Trainer George Conway said that War Admiral, as well as the other horses in his care, are well advanced. They spent the winter at Berlin down on the eastern shore. Due to the mild winter that prevailed, Conway has been able to have them farther advanced in their training than any other thoroughbreds he brought from winter quarters at Berlin in the past ten years. Present plans call for War Admiral and Over the Top, both sons of Man o War, to participate in a sprint race early in the meeting, which is expected to tighten them up for their engagement in the 0,000 Chesapeake. Superintendent James Ross has his track in fine fettle. Horsemen, who have been working their charges over it, say that while it is almost a second faster than a year ago, it still contains enough cushion to keep a horse from breaking down. Ross reports that every prominent American and Canadian-owned racing establishment has applied for stalls, and that over 1,000 horses will be housed here when actual racing begins April 12. Four stakes will be run during the forthcoming fourteen days racing. In addition to the 0,000 Chesapeake, racing secretary Charles McLennan will offer the ,000 Harford Handicap on April 12, ,500 Philadelphia Handicap on April 17 and the ,500 Aberdeen Stakes on April 27. With four such stakes to shoot at in fourteen days no wonder trainers are anxious to ship here.
